OK so I see a few drawings on Miiverse involving retro sprites engaging in SSB and I thought "wouldn't it be cool if Sakurai actually done an 8/16/32 bit version of SSB? Now I notices Olimar and Sonic on some of them but we gotta keep it realistic. Had SSB been released back then, they wouldn't be playable characters. I'm thinking, taking original sprites of Nintendo's characters who were contemporary of the time (Pit, Ice Climbers, Mario, Link, Samus, Pikachu, Little Mac, etc) and throwing them into SSB with levels based on what they would've been at the time.
Similar to the NES Remix game we have, it won't cost much because the original levels and sprites are all there, it doesn't have to be any more advanced than the original N64 SSB was, and they could just charge an e-shop price for it. I know I'd buy it. Anyone else?

Doesn't mean that it wouldn't still be a waste of money and Sakurai's time.

I would much rather him focus on newer Smash Bros. games instead of making a retro version. Plus I bet that a retro SSB would be pretty clunky.

Smash 64 is 64-bit...
@Undead_terror Super Smash Land is a rom, but nonetheless still a game.
EDIT: Thanks for the info. I knew it wasn't official, but knew you could play it on the computer. Assumed it was a rom. Sorry.

Not a rom, a free fan made game, but you do need to download the game but no emulators or anything.

It's not a ROM (a rom would be a game stripped from it's original package while this game is not), but it's a free fan made download game that you can get here, fun game! http://www.supersmashland.com/

Aaah looks awesome but I was hoping it would be less Gameboy and more SNES. I'd also settle for NES. Still, beggars can't be choosers and it looks like the person who did this still done an AWESOME job!
