For every £1 spent on eShop you get 10 free points. For every 500 points you get a £5 free credit. But here's the brilliant bit: The free download with MK8 classes as a purchase so you get the price of the download as points for free.
For example I got Monster Hunter which gave me £42's worth of points as such I now have £5 free.
