I liked that level personally. It wasn't very challenging but it was a fun diversion. I've never played a Mario vs. DK game before so I'm not very good yet. It's obvious some thought went into the level unlike most of the stuff you see floating around and I actually thought it was visually appealing, but again this is after hours of looking at user created levels that prove Sturgeon's Law.

As for why it is popular I suspect that it being from GameXplain doesn't hurt, but also remember that they had a review copy of the game so they got a chance to put their level up first, so when people went to look for levels right at the beginning, there they already were, ready to go.

The only way to get noticed like that is play each other's levels and leave Yeah's on the ones we like! Right now if you select the "Popular" tab under "Community" games are showing up that only have 15 Yeah's. So just support each other! I've been Yeah'ing literally every level I play, partially in hope that the person will check me out and play my levels, but also because it seems like the polite thing to do.

I definitely agree. I'm not saying it's bad that it's there - but it isn't very complex and didn't look particularly difficult to make, but due to various reasons (their popularity, them having the game earlier), it has 400 Yeah!s, and so far no other levels are catching up, so it's just frustrating because it's going to be hard to get noticed with that out there. In which case how can we get enough stars to unlock something like Gold Mario? I'm just very skeptical of how anyone is going to be able to get THOUSANDS of stars when something like GameXplain is getting all of the attention because of a popular YouTube channel.

What reviews are you referring to? I'd love to hear some perspectives. I think the game is great, the only thing I'm disappointed with is the tipping system. Right now the most popular level in the community levels is most popular because it was created by someone from GameXplain, and it's kind of annoying because the level has over 400 "Yeah!"s on Miiverse, is the TOP of the list so people keep seeing it and playing it... and it's not even that good --. It's super straight forward and visually kinda meh. Levels like that are fine, but it just seems like the only reason it is popular is because it's from GameXplain. How are OUR levels supposed to get noticed and how are we supposed to get stars when that's what is getting the most notice?

Still, it's a Mario vs. Donkey Kong game, combining elements from Minis March Again and Miniland Mayhem, so I'm pretty thrilled in that regard. ^^ Just that one minor thing is bugging me at the moment.

The Destructoid review was pretty bad, and they're probably my 3rd favorite review site. I know I would enjoy the game more than he did, but I don't know if I can justify spending all my eShop credit when Mario Maker is sure to be better (imo I doubt anyone will say Mario Maker is bad; Nintendo would really have to mess it up).

Also I admit the level sharing will probably be skewed, but at least playing other people's levels can get you stars, so you'll still be able to buy all the stuff (eventually). Coming from someone who's never gotten more than about 10 people to play my levels on LittleBigPlanet, I can say its going to be hard for levels to get exposure without you doing anything. You need to do some sort of advertisement, like posting them on the level sharing thread or Youtube or something... Otherwise the only way they'll get really popular is if they go viral, like the GameXplain one.

That's assuming anyone can even manage to play the levels once you share them. Right now it's really bad. I'm having a terrible time of it getting @Bazly's levels to play in my game. Just posting to Miiverse as a method of sharing isn't cutting it. They need QR codes or something. There needs to be a major overhaul update if sharing online and not just hit and miss through Miiverse is ever going to happen.

Can't you follow Bazly and get all Bazly's posts? How is it that you can't get the levels to play once you share them? I guess I don't have the game so I'm completely lost by that.

I'm following Bazly and yet when I go into the area of the game where it shows you levels created by people you follow, it tells me there are no levels. As to why they won't play when I click directly from Miiverse I have no Earthly clue. It's glitching up.

Dang that's awful. Sounds like something they might notice though. Also its possible Bazly took them down.

It seems like half the people just adore this game and the other half utterly despise it.

Perhaps the people who hate it are some of the ones who already played Mini-Land Mayhem. Tipping Star's puzzle element is mostly identical to that game with the girder system.

I've never played Mini-Land Mayhem. What I really enjoy is the online aspect of the game... creating and sharing levels. I'm a naturally creative person so that gets me. I'm always really excited to boot up the game after a while to see how many times people have played my levels. It's only about 25 times so far, but I've been tipped maybe 20 stars in addition to that (you get stars just for being played). It seems most people don't tip but a few make a habit of it.

At any rate the game itself is OK, but the levels people have come up with online (if they aren't just cheap freebies or flat out bad) are generally more creative than what's on offer in the game proper. I'm not very good yet, this being my first time playing one of these games, so I've had a hard time with some of the more fiendish ones.

@MasterWario @DreamyViridi @TheLobster @Blast

I'm not sure why that's happening! I seem to be able to see all of your levels just fine... I wonder if it has something to do with the problems I've been having with Miiverse in general? I've noticed in Pushmo World when I go to look at the levels I have shared, it says there is nothing there too, even though if you look at my Miiverse account, I have shared TONS. Ugh, I bet it is the same problem meaning when Nintendo gave me a temporary ban last year they messed something up. They still haven't unblocked my profile bio message either, even though I changed it to fix the problem they had with it. UGH. This would mean no one can see any of my levels. Awesome. -_-

As for collecting starts, MasterWario, to unlock the Golden Mario set, you'll need a total of like 6000 stars. You get three for finishing a level. THREE. I highly doubt I am going to be playing 2000 user levels any time soon. Honestly, the prices they have put on unlocking a lot of the stuff is just unreasonable given the fact that the tipping system is slightly flawed.

Finally, I have noticed that ALL of the reviews keep saying the game is "just Miniland Mayhem", but that really ISN'T the case. The way the levels designed by the developers are set up, it is kind of true: most of the levels use similar mechanics as Miniland Mayhem, then when you switch to the Minis March Again mechanics it pretty much exclusively uses those. But the fact that BOTH can be USED together gives the user levels endless potential to be much more creative, and you can recreate your levels both from Miniland Mayhem AND Minis March again if you want, or even update them to make them more complex using elements from both games. I just feel like the people who are giving it bad reviews either aren't invested in the series in the first place, or seem to be misunderstanding something, because I think having the elements of both games under one roof is fantastic. (To be fair, even the ones that gave it positive reviews seemed to miss that, and Nintendo themselves never seemed to bother to point that out. It's kind of driving me cray because as far as I'm concerned that's hugely appealing!)

Here are some levels I made

Here an easy way to get them if you view this post with your 3DS browser.

I really wish you could share these with QR codes,,,and that friends levels actually showed up in the friends and followed section..a..its too hard to get your levels noticed :/

Bolded for emphasis

Boy you said it. I mean all of what you said but that in particular is driving me mad. I keep going to the Friends & Followed section and getting told that there are NO levels to show. When levels do show up it's only by one person at a time... so it may only be checking part of your friends list at a time instead of the whole thing. Extremely frustrating when I've added at least three people just for this game and none show up.

If we shared by QR codes or really ANYTHING but straight-to-Miiverse posts... if the game was capable of digging up your friends' levels... If there was even a search function in the game... It would not be so ridiculous as it is right now. As it stands getting your levels noticed is a Herculean effort and it's almost like, "Why bother?"

The level creation and sharing was why I bought Tipping Stars but it's about as frustrating as humanly possible. I have no hopes any of my levels will ever get played by any large number of people, and that makes me sad. Plus it makes it harder to unlock the content needed to make more interesting levels. Self-limiting.

It is rather unfortunate, seeing as getting starts by people playing your levels and leaving tips is pretty central to the game. Although I think it DOES show friends' levels properly, MINE just aren't coming up. Because I can see all of yours if I go to the Friends & Following section in both versions of the game. I'll let you all know when I get my Miiverse issues sorted out then you can tell me if you can find my levels.

Octane

@Bazly The game's not out in Europe, so I wouldn't know, but can't other players rate your level for up to 5 stars? I'd assume that you get those stars as well, that would make collecting stars a lot easier.

Octane

TheLobster

@Octane That is indeed how the tipping mechanic works. In practice not a lot of people are doing it, it seems. But they can't tip stars at all if they can't find your level and that's what Bazly and I are concerned about.

Has anyone found a good place to share your levels and such? Like others have said it's hard to get them noticed, especially if it's not a simple Free Stars level.
I've posted here but traffic is a bit slow : https://www.reddit.com/r/MvsDKTS/

Here's a few of my levels for anyone who cares to take a look at what I have made (I'm no expert designer but I think I did alright).
