Topic: M2 Making More "Rebirth" Games?

Posts 1 to 20 of 32

DudeSean

So, M2 made some nice games for the Wii that were based on some of the classic NES / SNES games. Personally, I would like to see them continue that with the Wii U eShop. Whether it's another classic style Contra or Castlevania or if they were to take on another classic game series. The WiiWare games seemed to be based heavily off the NES / arcade versions. That is, they seemed inferior to the SNES versions. So, if we could get a new Castlevania game for the Wii U eShop that played very similar to Super Castlevania IV, I think that would be great. With Contra, I wouldn't be opposed to adding four player co-op, especially now that Wii U is in HD. They should be able to have a lot more going on at once on the screen. And, of course, the graphics would be much better than the GBA style graphics of the Rebirth games on WiiWare.

So what do you guys think? Would you like M2, or another developer, to continue the work that they did on the Wii by producing new games in classic series'?

Nope, the should concentrate on new ideas for VC. U didn't think i'd disappear so easily, did you?

I wouldn't be opposed to the idea, but like justlink said I want to see their main focus on VC games.

If anyone was going to make a new Contra I would want it to be Wayforward. They did amazing work with Contra 4 and would love to see what else they can do with it

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

@DefHalan I agree. Wayforward should be a prime candidate for a new classic-style Contra game. Contra 5 on Wii U eShop? Perhaps they could make branching levels and have one player on the gamepad and one on the TV so they can either go together or separately. Or maybe just make it so that you can split up in some overhead levels.

Really, at this point I would be happy if Konami FINALLY puts Contra 1 on the VC. Unless it was some deal they had with Microsoft, I really don't understand the holdup. The Contra 1 on XBLA is the arcade version and not the NES version.

@brooks83 I consider that to be a separate matter, but one that needs to be dealt with.

I adore the Rebirth games. Strangely enough, just earlier this week I was thinking about how much I'd love to see M2 get another crack at a similar series (while mourning the vapors of Salamander Rebirth). I don't understand why so many would rather see M2 utilizes solely for technical expertise in regurgitating VC games... What's wrong with them flexing their creative muscles and leveraging that expertise in forging new classic-style games?

Gradius Rebirth is a brilliant distillation of the original Arcade games. Contra Rebirth is an awesome throwback to it's Arcade heritage. And Castlevania Rebirth might be the most approachable, instantly satisfying games in the entire series. Those three games are among my most cherished on WiiWare and alone justify it's existence.

As for Wayforward, keep them away from Contra (and any classic property after botching DuckTales). Pivotal staff from 4 has since left and Way forward hasn't released a good game in several years.

I don't think Duck Tales was bad. I enjoyed it. They have made plenty of fun games in recent years. I really enjoy the Mighty Series, Centipede, Aliens, and Double Dragon

Speaking of Double Dragon, I'd like to see M2 take a crack at that.

Now we're asking for licensing nightmares?

@Unca_Lz Ducktales Remastered happened. Licensing situations do work out sometimes. As for me, personally, I don't think any of the games I've asked for in this thread are that bad of a licensing situation. I mean, M2 already got the rights to make Contra, Castlevania and Gradius games on the Wii. Wayforward made a Double Dragon game. Although, I would much rather someone other than Wayforward make the next one. I haven't played Double Dragon Neo, but just watching videos of it makes me cringe.

Also, your avatar has reminded me, Wayforward should totally remaster the NES Darkwing Duck game. Same companies involved, Capcom and Disney, so hopefully that's not too much to ask for.

I don't think the NES Darkwing Duck game is remembered nearly as fondly as NES DuckTales were, but I suppose it could still happen. I'd love to see a remastered Chip n Dale's Rescue Rangers myself.

brooks83

DudeSean

@brooks83 I'm sure it's not, but it would still be cool to have. I never really got in to chip n dale. I played the NES games, but they seemed very mediocre to me. Also, the fact that they're named after male strippers put me off.

@Pahvi Touché. But still, it's off-putting.

This was a simple case of ignorance which was settled. There is nothing off-putting anymore
