Neostream finally launched their website; they're a little slow with the updates, but apparently development is going well;

http://www.neostream.com/

The website also hints at underwater exploration, as opposed to just sailing around on your boat. Definitely seems to be one of the biggest games coming to the Wii U eShop.

Trailer:

Moved this to Other Gaming since it's not coming out on the Wii U anymore, maybe the Switch, who knows!?

Glad to see this hasn't dropped off the face of the earth. After the initial buzz, I'd pretty much lost hope of this ever seeing the light of day on a Nintendo console.
Still, unless the devs have got some big financial backing behind the scenes, I'm skeptical that they can produce something this ambitious with just AU$300,000 of Kickstarter funding. Especially as it seems like they've never worked on anything on this sort of scale before.
I'll be pleasantly surprised if they pull it off, but I won't be getting my hopes up too high for now.

@skwaark: Yeah, the original trailer looks promising. I guess they're either a really small team or found another source of income.

They launched a new update, I'll also include their Januari update;

Januari Update:

Neostream wrote:

Hi All!

With the holidays now behind us, our first update for 2016 reveals some insight on what's to come. As you all know, we've continuously been working on additional mechanics and polishing up character core navigation as well advanced navigation such as cliff climbing and swimming.

This month on the dev side, we've added the animations into our test scene to see how things look and feel. A quick rundown:

  • Cliff climbing, hanging, diving etc.
  • Jumping and landing from different heights, diving off cliff edge into water.
  • Above water swimming (basic freestyle).
  • Underwater swimming mechanics and key controls.
  • Underwater tests (more for adequate visibility, refraction, camera etc.)

On the game design and art side, we've been tossing around further looting UI ideas and we came up with a mechanic for carving and harvesting meat after hunting down an animal. As a result, we'd like to give you a glimpse of our new boar (from our previous one which in the end, we all thought looked too happy and cute to slay and loot).

Here is a glimpse of our new boar NPC (no shading or any effects).

Untitled

A few notes on hunting and looting animals such as this boar:

Among other things, since our game also very much has survival elements, we wanted to make hunting for food more engaging and not just kill and obtain meat with a single interaction button.

We also wanted to involve the player more into the skinning and carving mechanic so that this experience itself can be rewarding and tie this process together within a new UI. Don't worry the mechanic will be very simple.

What you yield will be different from time to time which will also depend on character traits and skills as well as how effectively or efficiently you kill your prey assuming of course, you are not killed in the process

And of course, if you're vegetarian, you may do away with all this and just harvest fruits and wild vegetables but relatively, you're going to have to consume quite a lot more of this to replenish health and stamina.

As always, comments and ideas are always welcome.

Take care all!

March Update:

Hi all!

Once again, apologies to all for the slight delay in our Feb update.

Whilst trying to refrain from playing some recent great releases, what we’ve been continuously working on over the past month is still refining all the core movements/navigation until we get it right to everyone’s satisfaction. We’ve made much progress and although it’s not yet perfect, we feel that we really need to nail this now rather than later.

In this update, we’d like to give you a look into our swimming mechanic which we’ve mentioned over the past, we’ve tuned the movements so that the experience and controls are not so stifling. In short, we weren’t really fans of the camera always tailing the protagonist’s bum while swimming.

We’ve made a prototype scene to test this as well as:

  • Diving – jump diving.
  • Swimming locomotion – turning, diving under in all directions and angles, swimming upwards, surfacing, quick turns etc.
  • Fake physics (for optimization) – buoyancy tests and its effects when in transition between above water and underwater.
  • Water culling – since our game is not a first person or fixed shoulder view, we’re experimenting with a custom culling technique to slice out certain levels or scenes.

They also included a small demo video with their new water physics; it's looking pretty good, definitely better than in their original trailer. Here's a link to the post that includes the video; https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ldi/little-devil-inside/...

Love that art style. I think at this point this is more likely to come out on NX than Wii U, assuming it releases on a Nintendo platform at all. Keeping my fingers crossed, because this still looks fantastic.

Not so sure about the survival aspects though. I just hope they aren't too intrusive. The last thing I want when I'm on an epic adventure is to be micro-managing my stomach.

@skwaark: The Wii U was one of the original Kickstarter stretch goals, so we'll have to see how that pans out. Anyway, hopefully it'll come to a Nintendo console, it's the perfect title for it; It really reminds me of a western version of Zelda.

I agree about your concerns though; I don't hope they go too overboard with everything. It's already an open world / adventure / action game with a lot of freedom from the looks of it (I mean, if you can take those vehicles on a ride whenever you like, that would be pretty sweet). If it's just health that is difficult to come by and doesn't regenerate on its own, then I'm fine with it. Not sure how I feel about stuff like hunger and thirst; I've seen some games do that, but you're worrying more about gathering food than actually going on an adventure.

There's a comment from them a few days ago saying a Wii U version is planned as they've been talking to Epic and Ninty about it.

Apparently they've switched over to UE4. The Wii U currently doesn't support that, so I wonder how they'll make that happen.

I imagine they will use the 64DD and expansion pack on the Wii U.

@Octane: Yeah, the UE4 issue is one of the reasons I'm doubtful this will make it out on the Wii U. This wouldn't be the first Kickstarter game to abandon a Wii U port due to technical challenges / financial viability.

The other reason is timing. Based on the Kickstarter updates, and the fact that their website is little more than a placeholder at this point, I don't get the impression that development is anywhere near the home stretch. I'd expect that by the time it's complete, Wii U will already have been put out to pasture and an NX version might make more sense.

skwaark

Octane

@skwaark: Yeah, they're quite slow on the updates. I'm glad we're getting monthly updates now, but other than that, there's nothing. Not even a twitter account or anything like that. Whatever works for them I guess; if they can still deliver an awesome game, I don't really mind.

Reassuring the hear they are working with Epic and Nintendo on this. I would really like to play this, so I'm hoping for the best. Maybe they will be using the UE4 port that Armature is working on for Bloodstained.

Been a couple of months, but there's a new Kickstarter update. Apparently they've "secured additional funding".

Called it! The game they were pitching was always ludicrously ambitious for the amount they originally raised, so this was to be expected.
In other news, they've expanded their team, and pushed the projected release back to 2018. No word on the Wii U version, but you'd have to assume this would come to NX now, if it reaches Nintendo platforms at all.

skwaark

Octane

@skwaark Thanks for the update! I kinde gave up looking after a long time of no news. Good to see that they're setting a realistic goal this time, but 2018.. that's going to take a while. There's plenty to play in the meantime though.

JaxonH

I funded this at Kickstarter for Wii U.

If 2018 is the target release I think an NX version should rightfully replace Wii U. No one will still be gaming on the Wii U in 2018 except for retro gaming and catching up on backlog. Plus, NX very well could support UE4

@JaxonH It's strange though, they kinda avoided mentioning the Wii U, even when they were talking about the switch to UE4 a couple of months ago. They basically said; We'll figure something out with Epic. I never know what to think of games that switch consoles due to delays. On one hand, people funded the game for Wii U, but on the other hand, that system will be forgotton by the time the game comes out.

After several months of silence, the devs are back with updates (hopefully monthly updates too). Here's a new character; Evi Maple.

According to their update, they're working on a VS build that features an area called the Strange Woods. They're working towards something that's presentable at GDC in March 2017, so that's a good thing. Now that they've switched their engine to UE4, and with the confirmation of the Switch, I wonder if there are plans for a Switch port. Because the Wii U port isn't happening anymore.
