Topic: Indie Smash Bros?

Saw this topic on another forum but didn't wanna join a whole new message board to post a comment lol

But this sounds like a great idea to me. How cool would it be if a bunch of indie comoanies collaborated for a smash bros/all-star battle royale style project? Would love to hear your input?

What format would you choose? A straight up smash bros clone like that Cartoon Network game, or something new like sony's attempt, or something more traditional like tmnt: smash up?

And of course, what would you pick for characters and stages? The big names like quote, commander video, and shovel knight are obvious, but what about throwing in a few tiny developers have proven themselves like rcdmiax or however you spell it? I look forward to hearing from y'all

I'd love to see something like this happen. I actually posted this idea in the games you'd like to see on the eshop thread. I wouldn't want it to be a straight up smash clone, but definitely in the same vein as smash. Hex Heroes is one game that is bringing Nintendo indie characters together, but it just isn't a smash type game. The characters that I'd like to see would be: Juan (Guacamelee), Max (Mutant Mudds), Shantae (Shantae), Shovel Knight (Shovel Knight), Rusty (Steamworld Dig), Captain Viridian (VVVVVV), Ray (Stick it to the Man), Armillo (Armillo), Mi (Knytt Underground), Toki Tori Bird (Toki Tori), Patricia Wagon (Mighty Switch Force), Giana Sisters (Giana Sisters), Commander Video (Runner 2), Goro (Wooden Sen'Sey), Gunman Clive (Gunman Clive), Aban Hawkins (1001 Spikes), Quote (Cave Story), Player (Retro City Rampage), Ittle Dew (Ittle Dew) and then I'd also like to see some characters for games that are still to be released like Vice President of the World (Citizens of Earth), Abe (Oddworld), Stranger (Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath), Cactus (Assault Android Cactus), Nameless Protagonist (Teslagrad), Tommynaut (Armikrog) and a lot more, but the list would be too long if I just kept listing them. I think that it wouldn't be such a great idea to bring "characters" from games like Blok Drop U in, because Blok Drop U doesn't have any characters. However, I do think that a stage based on Blok Drop U would be perfect. I'd also like to see assist trophies like in Smash. Some characters that could make for good assists: Birds (Chasing Aurora), Puddle (Puddle), Burning Toys/Items (Little Inferno), Rabbit (Kung Fu Rabbit), Tower (Castlestorm), Rollercoaster train (Coaster Crazy Deluxe), Cube (EDGE) and Ice Cream Surfer (Ice Cream Surfer) just to name a few.

I like that line up. I would also want to add the water drop from Fluidity.

I had a funny idea that The Letter could be an assist trophy that just makes everything dark except an egg shaped light... perpare for the in coming hate lol

I'd just like to throw in a small handful of characters who have yet to be mentioned.

The Kid - Bastion
Dust - Dust: An Elysian Tail
Razputin Aquato - Psychonaughts

As for characters that would be weird but hilarious to include:

Thomas (or anyone from the Thomas Was Alone cast) - Thomas Was Alone
Nigel (or better yet an arm with no coordination) - Surgeon Simulator 2013

As for unlikely but notable characters:

Neil Watts or Eva Rosaline (or maybe even Johnny or River in style similar to Bedman in Guilty Gear Xrd) - To the Moon
Gomez - FEZ
Tim - Braid

As for the announcer it should either be the Narrator from The Stanley Parable or Rucks from Bastion.

It would be lame and fake retro.

You would need some REALLY good developers behind it with major crowd funding.
