For me all those games have is the story. Final Fantasy VI (Or Dragon Quest V) for example that is the type of story I want from a JRPG. If it doesn't have that I would rather play a different type of game.
but even some of the best 16-bit stories weren't exactly the most compelling features of their games.
This was a lesson I had to learn a lot when I finally got to play some of them (Breath of Fire 2 being the most frustrating example because it has such a brilliant intro)
I know what you mean with BoF2. Ugh, that game had a lot of wasted potential in retrospect, not just in the story. I still really like the game for some reason, though, but the first was better overall, even if the story was pretty mundane there.
There's a patch coming sometime after launch which will fix bugs and add some animated cut-scenes to the game "one in particular will be a 3 minute long opening scene"! This has been confirmed on the developer's blog, but my mobile device that I'm using right now can't open the site so I can't provide an url right now. I'll post the source when I get on my Wii U later.

...I just read through the whole blog and their forum, and their Facebook. I'm still checking the Kickstarter, but I'm not seeing any news of a supposed update yet...most of their Kickstarter is backers-only, though...
Hmmm...so I guess the person at Gamefaqs who posted the info and his source are fake...sorry I couldn't check for myself since my mobile device is garbage.
I'm not into REERPGs (random enemy encounter RPGs). That lowers my interest quite a bit. But if the price is ranged around that of a regular megadrive VC game I'd probably pick it up. Reviews have been positive although with warnings.
My retro RPG revival wish still waits though. And it's taking chunks from the gameplay and ideas found in Terranigma and the overload of collectible characters functioning like in games such as Suikoden and Skies of Arcadia Legends.

Skies of Arcadia IS a REERPG
Yep but I was talking about a game that combines the collectible characters of Skies ad Arcadia with the gameplay of Terranigma which is not a REERPG.
