I'd say the NintendoLife reviews are as clueless. NL's scores make absolutely no sense, and each review is written too individually to make and sort of sense when comparing games against each other. But this applies to all review sites.

IMO, the Metacritic score is a much more solid guide than an individual site would be (specially for games that get many reviews). There are however some unfair scores, such as Squids Odyssey (where too many reviewers didn't try at all) and Armillo (which had frame rate issues in the unpatched release).

Metacritic also contains links to almost all the game reviews that have been published online, so it's a much better starting point for a buyer to do an initial research about a game than a single site like NL. I do however appreciate NL's ambition to review every released Wii U game.
