First impressions: it is definitely a good throwback to old 8-bit games.
Gameplay: Simple 2D platforming with plentiful secrets and no explanation on what you need to do. The only "tutorial" in the game is the manual itself. It plays similarly to Zelda II with some elements of Metroid and Kid Icarus thrown in as well.
Story: The game starts with some quotes and gameplay is interrupted a couple of times for a mysterious story that is not yet fully explained. I don't know enough to talk about the story itself, but I do really like the set up it's going for.
Music: Simple and effective. It's not really memorable so far, but I have yet to hear a tune I hated.
Graphics: 8-Bit. Enough said.
Overall: Definitely worth a shot if you are curious. I personally think it's worth $13 so far

So, I started it last night. Went through the intro stage and the first dungeon, and I'm already impressed. I replayed Zelda II a while ago, and this seems like what that game would be if Miyamoto & co had 25 extra years of game development ideas under their belts back when they made it. Can't wait to keep going through it on the weekend.
@TingLz - I agree about everything, except the music. I think the music so far has been nothing short of phenomenal. It gave me a big Master System vibe, I'm not sure why.
