Topic: 50hz Virtual Console- this needs to change (read urgently)

Hey everyone, by now you may've downloaded Balloon Fight and played it, it's a fun game now that it has Miiverse intergration and gamepad functionality, but unfortunately it is running at 50hz. Why does this matter to any of you? Virtual console games or any game running at 50hz tend to run 17% slower than NTSC or Jap games, which run at 60hz, this is because hardware in the past has had to accomodate the fact that European CRT tvs used to only run at 50hz. But now it's the 21st century and we should have mostly HDTVs or TVs that can support 60hz, we shouldn't have to tolerate Nintendo giving us the inferior version of the game, even if we got the game purchased in a one-time promotion at 30c/30p.
There is a petition on Change.Org at the moment to try and help rectify this problem and you can sign it to help try and convince Nintendo to give us the option of 60hz or to change the current versions to 60hz. Back in 2011, pretty much for the first time we got to experience full speed Super Mario Bros at 60hz, if you compare that to the Wii's Virtual Console version, you'll notice the difference right away, it's a lot slower compared to the 3DS port because the Wii VC version is running at 50hz. If you loved playing Super Mario Bros at 60hz, just think about playing F-Zero (SNES) on the Wii U VC at full 60 hz, It would be brilliant, no slow down, fast paced music, the works. Help improve the service Nintendo provides us by signing the petition so we can enjoy full speed games at 60hz (and hopefully never have to experience 50hz again).
Go to the link here in order to help try convince Nintendo to stop selling us the inferior version that Japan and America ain't getting, please sign it so hopefully will get the same end of the stick that the rest of the world does, come on Nintendo Lifers!!

I'm not against what everyone's complaing about, but really, that's the way they were in Europe originally at that time. When they released Starfox 64 on Wii VC, they neglected the hardware disadvantages, and decided to run the game off the Wii itself, instead of using an N64 emulator. They downdated the game to run off the emulator, which caused 'lag'(framerate issues). Does anyone remember Starfox 64 before it was updated years ago? They updated it to have framerate issues, to stay original to the game. There is always a constant battle for what could be, and what was. If they release a 60hz version for Europe, they better release a 50hz option for here in U.S./Japan. This should shed more light on the situation. Let us control our hz rate Nintendo! Whether it be 30, 50, 60, 120, 240, 480, or 600hz! Letting us control the hz output would be ideal really...

I've read somewhere that a lot of people are complaining about this issue on MiiVerse so hopefully Nintendo listens and does something about it. I agree the best option would be to allow European gamers the option of having a game at 60hz as it was originally intended or 50hz if they want to be nostalgic.

The games were 50Hz in Europe. And Nintendo brings them to the VC the way they were originally made. I have no problem with it.

This isn't a huge deal for me, but I agree there should be choice just as many games on the GameCube gave PAL owners a choice between 50Hz and 60Hz playback.

Doesn't NoE make these decisions?

This is Europe, so Nintendo of Europe doesn't make the decisions...
Seems legit.

I'm happy with Balloon Fight as it was originally released in my region, its heaps fun to me & runs fine If Nintendo gives in & provides the 60Hz version I hope they give us an option to switch between the two settings but if not at least I'm happy

If it's that KaiserGX is missing something, then yes, you're right.

I didn't.
I'm not against giving people more options to decide between 50hz and 60hz, but I seriously don't see what the huge issue is.
I haven't tried Balloon Flight yet, but I tried Super Mario Bros. from the original Wii VC. It ran just fine. Can someone... Seriously, could someone shed some light on this to me? Because I don't really care if my game runs a little slower as long as it still runs well, and I think the 50hz edition runs well and I don't get what all the hollering is over. It's not as huge a difference as people are making it out to be, IMO.
Again, I'm fine with giving people the choice. Like, as an extra Wii U menu option or something to choose wether you want to play the EU or US version, so that the game can still be completely true-to-experience for people who would prefer that. But I'm scratching my head as to why people seem to be so upset about this... It's not like the Wii wasn't in the 21st century too.
I mean, I'm not saying not everyone won't notice it but I just straight up can't see it.

Well, I'll be damned. When you compare them like at 1:11, there is a big difference.
But it's not like it renders it unplayable so I still don't get why people are this upset.
Someone shed some light on this to me. Please, just tell me why this is so big. I'm trying to say that any of you are wrong to be upset but I don't understand just why people are upset about it.

The game is still playable at 50Hz, but it's the fact that after 25 years Nintendo still cant give us the upgraded version - even though that's the version that every other region is getting. It would not be that difficult to give us the 60Hz version - even if that means just giving us the one released in NA. People complained about this a lot on the Wii, and this just shows Nintendo ignored all of the pleas and complaints for their next-gen system.

Balloon Fight is still a very fun game, and I'm enjoying it none the less - and for 30p these games are a steal, but that doesn't excuse Nintendo from doing something that's easy to rectify and has been frowned upon for over 6 years now.

Pretty much in a nutshell. There's no real reason for this. You can search Nintendo Life and find a nice, lengthy article about the 50Hz issue on the Wii from a few years ago so it's not like fan reaction has come out of nowhere. In fact I seem to recall that Nintendo revisited games to enable them to run in 480p mode because a lot of people had issues even with 60Hz (480i) because their TVs couldn't display interlaced video modes over component connections.

We aren't going to have the latter issue this time around, but seriously we shouldn't be seeing this. Heck I still can't figure out why a number of retail Wii games were released (including Samurai Warriors 3 - published by Nintendo) which only ran in 50Hz!

Its still playable, but it is not as fun.
Mr Iwata made Balloon Fight in 60hz. Its the first vc game because he wanted to share it. Yet what we are playing is not what he made, its a pale imitation and as much an insult to him as it is to me who plays it.

Please read this and sign the petition:

I was talking about it being Europe and since that's the original version that's what you are getting.

I didn't say NoE didn't make the decisions but seems people always dive in any chance they want to troll.

You are not getting the un-updated version, you are getting the European version. Enjoy Devil World (and Lylat Wars).
