Topic: Wii VC games are significantly quieter than anything thing else on Wii U

I saw another thread about how the screens are smaller for Wii U VC games, that makes sense to me, but when I play the VC games I have to crank the volume up 30 more notches from where it was for the Wii U menu just to start hearing anything thing.
This is also a huge pain considering when it blares the minute you go back to regular Wii U games. I am just wondering if anyone else is having this problem.

Yeah it was like that with the Wii also there is a huge difference between modern and retro sound because everything these days is mastered to optimal levels whereas back in the day they didn't really have the gear to do it... The same can be said about retro & modern sound in the music industry.

Yeah I noticed a bit on Wii as well, but nothing like this. I had my volume on 20% when playing Injustice, which was pretty loud. Then I decided to play some Kirby and I couldn't even hear it at ALL on that. I had to put it up at least 30 more notches to begin to hear something.

We might need to start a petition on MiiVerse about mastering the levels for VC

For Kirby?
I was pretty excited to get it, because I haven't played many of the Kirby games before.

Strange, I don't have any issues. Virtual Console volumes sound like a perfect match for the WiiU. However, a few third party games like Sonic Racing are absurdly loud.

...... and you think the modern sound has improved quality I assume?

Lots written about this, lots of good explanations as to why it's a bad thing in terms of quality. If you're selling me audio make it quiet and let me turn up the volume. That said I haven't found the VC quiet at all. F-Zero in particular is ridiculously loud and if "loudness" would mean I'd lose the dynamic range that allows an explosion to scare the bejebus out of me then I don't want it. Not at all.

No the quality of artists has not improved

Meh. I don't really get all these complaints. People dealt with louder commercials and this sort of thing for years. They at least made louder commercials illegal as far as I know... Sega games are always louder from what I can tell, BTW.
This is a problem with more than just VC games, but I think it has more to do with what kind of speakers you're using and the content being played back. Older games on Wii U VC don't even use subs, and only rely on speakers for bass. That's how it was originally.
I think we should just be glad that we are playing Super Mario World in full HD with custom control options, restore points, home menu pause, and turn the TV up if we have to.

no no, I was talking about this: http://youtu.be/-v6ML2DsBfA

Possibly off topic but my point was the same. If "loudness" in games means that you lose the dynamic range then it's not worth it. Saying the audio levels in modern music (and presumably games) is optimal is very far from the truth.

My brother is a composer on the side and he was telling how in mastering they bring the decibels all the way to the top nowadays for better effect or management or something, and how it's the reason why drums tend not to sound as they should. That actually explains everything and makes me more understandable in coping with it.
(Now we can still petition: Nintendo has proven that they do in fact read our posts, they can always fix that when they'll find the time to do so...)

My preferred level for Wii VC is 17, and 14 for Wii U VC. The Wii U VC has more clarity, so you can hear things at lower levels.
