Topic: Why is Gamecube VC not here yet?

I really want Gamecube VC, and I'm sure i'm not alone. I mean we have D.S. virtual console, Gamecube is more virtual than D.S.! Do you think we may here more of this at E3?

I don't think it will exist this generation. To my knowledge, Nintendo never actually said it was coming; it was brought up during some event and they vaguely said something like "that is something to think about" in typical Nintendo fashion. I think we'll see it on the next home console, but I mean if it took us THIS long to get 3-4 N64 games, don't hold your breath on Gamecube titles.

When I close my eyes, I see pixilated blood.

To me it seemed weird that they put D.S. games on VC, when the D.S. still isn't that old. However on the next console having VC for EVERY Nintendo system would be awesome!!!

I think we will only get GC remakes this Gen. But if they able to do Wii Games on VC (that have classic controller input), there shouldn't be any reason why not (there have many threads before that probably explain why, but I can't remember)

I'm pretty sure they decided from the beginning that there wouldn't be GC VC on Wii U...the most obvious clue for that is that they didn't even bother to include analog triggers in Wii U controllers.

I'm sure that's not the reason why Nintendo isn't putting GC games on VC.

Having them on VC without analogue triggers would be crap! Mario Sunshine used them to judge your squirting distance. The game would be really twitchy trying to get the right distance from an ink. F-Zero used them for really subtle or extreme drifting but would not play aswell having to tap the triggers and end up compensating and zigzagging. There's no doubt the wii u can run gamecube games but they need to support the gamecube controllers again otherwise it's a waste. If they are going to do something they need to do it properly but it might be just too many controllers for one system. It's messy.

Nintendo is just very weird, they don't seem to like re-releasing their older games. And since N64 games have shown up, which was way overdue, and it's been over a month since the last N64 game was released, I doubt GameCube games will be coming to the Wii U seeing as they aren't even keeping up with N64 games. In fact, maybe Nintendo will probably just give up the VC next gen.

They should outsource the porting job to someone trustworthy, so they can keep a steady flow of classics on the VC! Nintendo is sitting on a gold mine catalogue, but they just don't care...

Then again you could say that having the Gamecube Adapter could be a clue for these games being released on the Wii U. It really is weird that they will make a peripheral for a single game, as hard to find as it is.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

The minute they announced the Adapter, I was sure the Gamecube VC was coming. Good thing I didn't hold my breath.

They could just be saving it for later, like N64 and GBA VC.

True, maybe my argument wasn't thoroughly thought through...but I just remembered a better reason from Alex against GC VC. GC emulation would make no sense on the Wii U because it is backwards compatible with the Wii which in turn should be able to run GC games just fine...so basically if GC games ever come to the Wii U, they would most likely be offered as downloads like Wii games, not Virtual Console games because that would be a waste of time (EDIT: I mean the programming/work that goes into it would be a waste of time.) That said, I still think that's highly unlikely. Hopefully it'll come to NX.

I know. Nintendo is missing such an opportunity here.

My game library ranges from Mario Kart to Call of Duty to Tales of Xillia to Diablo 3 to Forza. To me gaming is about having fun - not blindly supporting only one company while thumbing your nose at "the evil other systems."

I think they still might do this, just after they've decided what they'd like to remaster. And the lack of analogue triggers doesn't matter as long as the adapter is supported so the option exists to use original GC controllers for that very reason. I think the demand shown for that adapter would indicate there is a market there for some kind of GameCube game release, whether emulated or native.

I don't think it's going to happen. It's weird that it isn't happening (especially with the GC controller adapter), but I'm not expecting it.

I will update this when Half Life 3 arrives. [Started 17/11/2015]

It is very strange. Nintendo could have their entire console history on ONE console. Plus I want to play Four Swords Adventures, F-Zero GX and Kirby Air Ride, some of which may be incredibly hard to find these days!

As some of you have said, it took a long to time for N64 games to appear on the eShop and we only have a few of them now. The Wii U gamepad and pro controller lack analogue sticks and on top of that, the Wii U has been a failure for Nintendo. On the other hand, Nintendo has a lot of love for their retro games and we Nintendo fans love playing Super Mario World more than licking an ice cream. After Wii U's failure, Nintendo's stagnation is becoming more evident than ever. NX will be easy and open-minded and will let players download and play any Nintendo game, no matter if it's a NES or Gamecube one. The good side of all this is that Nintendo is learning from their mistakes, at least there's hoping here.

I really don't like the navigation bar of Nintendo Life continuously reappearing while browsing!!

We got only one so far, and it's still € 60, while other consoles have many HD ports (even collection of 2/3 games) at € 30...

Praise the Sun, and Mario too.

Is there perhaps an issue that all Gamecube games required a memory card to save the data?

That was theorised before, but I can't imagine they wouldn't be able to emulate that.
