Topic: What Mega Man Battle Network game should I get ?

I never played the series before but I'm interested. I don't care about playing in order or anything unless it's important story wise.
If I were to play only 1 battle network game to get a good feel about the series which one should I pick ? Which one is the best ?

5 is probably the best I assume with it being the most recent..

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

The first one has a pretty big story plot at the end, that makes you understand some of the characters behavior in other games. For me, the best one is 3 (regardless of the version), they perfected the battle system and the net is quite easy to navigate. I really recomend that you don't play 4 unless you play some of the other titles first, though - it is considered as one of the worst in the series.

I have a chronic lack of time, for everything.

Now playing: Okami HD, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

1 and 2 for the story setups (awful combat balancing, though), 3 for the features (but no good story), 4 for the chip selection (and horrible content padding), 5 for more plot (which involves lots of dumb mechanics), and 6 only if you still like Battle Network.

I can't speak for 1 and 2 as I haven't played them myself, but I played the rest of them back in the day. In terms of balancing, plot length, exploration, and general enjoyment, however, I recommend starting with 3 (the Blue version) if you're not bothered about plot. In fact, starting with the third games, the ones that followed were split into two versions.

Rather than me writing a book about all the games, the mechanics, and their differences, I recommend going here. The site is somewhat dated, but contains details and walkthroughs on the Battle Network series, as well as the other Mega Man series.
