Since my favorite rpg series is coming to the wii u virtual console i thought it willl be a good idea to create a topic for the series. Since someone on here created a topic for the sonic advance series. So let the discussion begin.
You know, I'll go ahead and confess something. I tried to get into the Golden Sun series, but the very first game on the GBA managed to frustrate me immensely and I gave up on the entire IP. However, since I'm an older and wiser gamer I think the time is right to give it another chance. I, for one, am eager to get my hands on the VC title and perhaps learn to love it.
The sheer amount of text and conversation between the player and NPC was a possibility as to why most people didn't like the series. I enjoyed it though and The Lost Age still remains as my favourite that I go back to replaying every so often.
3DS games:
Mario Kart 7
Zelda OoT 3D
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Shadow Wars
Pokemon Black FC: 2666 2484 8599
Kid Icarus Uprising
Heroes of Ruin
and more.
Crime doesn't pay, unless you are really good at it then those who are legal criminals ...
The game had a huge difficulty curve, at least to me when I was 10, but I will easily be buying this to play through it again. Some scenes I can still remember vividly to this day, which is saying something. @kkslider5552000 I'd have to agree; it's even better than a lot of the SNES RPGs on the SNES too.

I haven't played a decent RPG in a while and I've never played this game.. so I'm considering buying it when it's released. It does look pretty good/unique.
Loved the first game, am immensely stuck on the second and cannot play it without a walkthrough guide sitting next to me, therefore, haven't started Dark Dawn. Is there any actual linkage to the third game (ie password, have the GBA cart in the slot while booting it in the DS)? I might restart Lost Age if it releases on Wii U, will probably buy the first just to support and make sure I get that opportunity.
Sadly, this is the only complaint I have about Nintendo consoles. Good RPGs rarely ever release on them, and when they do they're sometimes very hard to get your hands on (see The Last Story and Xenoblade Chronicles).
So I am saving up for a PS4. Hopefully it will satisfy my JRPG cravings while the Wii U continues its JRPG drought.
@Cobrat
What JRPGs are coming to PS4 that aren't Final Fantasy?
Well, we're getting off topic here, but I'm a fan of Final Fantasy. Any FF game on the PS4 would be awesome. As far as anything else I have no idea. I just really don't want an XBox One. So... PS4 seems to be my only other major console option. Typically you get some great JRPGs one either of the two non-Nintendo consoles, or at least that's been the case in the past. Perhaps this generation will be different... I don't know. I'm just going to have to try and buy something that could possibly increase my chances of playing a good JRPG. X (tentative title) looks great, but it's an action RPG. I typically don't care for those.
The goods:
-Robust class and magic system
-Well designed boss encounters that are challenging but not impossible
-A huge world map (or at least the second game) allowing you to travel to heaps of locations
-Excellent dungeons with Zelda-style puzzles.
The bads:
-Everyone talks for way too long
-The combat gives you lots of options but you only need a fraction of them to do well
-Air's Rock.
-Some stuff's hidden so well that you will need a guide
always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)
What could Golden Sun be compared to that will give me an idea of its appeal?
It's comparable to...um...other JRPGs. Like JRPGs before too many of them became bad anime, it just has a well told, enjoyable fantasy adventure where you explore a good sized world and battle enemies to get strong enough to get further into the game and story and the interesting stories and characters you run into.
I wish I could think of a comparable RPG where you spend a heavy amount of time deciding how to use your magical helper creatures. I know they exist I'm just blanking on something remotely comparable to Djinns (and don't say Pokemon). Golden Sun is probably the best example of knowing exactly how much to put where. It knows when to put story, when to put battle heavy sections, how much you should battle, when to add something new, when to go into puzzles etc. Every section of both of the original games is just great JRPG stuff from beginning to end, which is fairly impressive (though the sequel can get kind of annoying and confusing to figure out how to do everything once the world really opens up). It's one of my favorite turn based battle systems too, the battles feel quick and awesome against all odds.
Sadly, this is the only complaint I have about Nintendo consoles. Good RPGs rarely ever release on them, and when they do they're sometimes very hard to get your hands on (see The Last Story and Xenoblade Chronicles).
So I am saving up for a PS4. Hopefully it will satisfy my JRPG cravings while the Wii U continues its JRPG drought.
man do i disagree. you obviously didn't look very hard. the ds and 3ds are rpg machines. the wii had a ton. the wii u is still lacking in this department but im betting this will end soon.
