I don't know how could I beat it without a map. LOL

I really don't like the navigation bar of Nintendo Life continuously reappearing while browsing!!

Zelda I is a great game. You'll certainly need a guide to figure a few things out, and to figure out how to get through the last dungeon. The game does very little to point you in the right direction, and sometimes that's the joy of playing it.

I wouldn't, but that's just me. I don't like that you can only stab in one direction and that the dungeons are littered with enemies (some rooms have frame rate droppage because they put so many in one screen).

If you do decide to play it, I recommend using a guide, because you need certain items to get to certain places or do certain things, and the game isn't clear or give you hints about it.

Thank you. I think I will pass because it would be too difficult for me without an in-game map and just following a guide step by step is not a lot of fun. My first console was the SNES and the only NES games I am able to enjoy are the Super Mario Bros. series... :S

There's no need. It was innovative at its time, but it's hard to still say Metroid is a great game. And it has virtually no story. In fact, the story it has was mostly given to it later through the Super Metroid intro and Zero Mission.

Just start with Super Metroid. I think it's by far the best series entry point.

I thought it would be, but I bought and despise Super Metroid. Metroid Fusion on the other hand, I love.

I have recently just finished Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion again thanks to the Wii U VC. They are fantastic games. I think you have made the right choice, go with Super first. If you enjoy them then Id say then give Metroid a go.

To be honest I think it's about time Nintendo released Zero Mission on the VC in both American and Europe! Been on the Japanese VC for ages now!

Any time Metroid I pop up. Super Metroid is the greatest video game of all time. Now that that's been said, play Super Metroid.

Currently Playing:
Yakuza: Like A Dragon
Star Wars: Squadrons
Black Ops Cold War Zombies
Favorite game: Super Metroid

Nope, but you should give it a try someday, it's not as bad as everyone say, it's just hard and a bit disorientating

Check out my super awesome Super Mario Maker levels.

You should try to find Metroid Zero Mission. It is kind of a remake of Metroid 1 with a Super Metroid skin.

I started with Super Metroid. No problems at all. It's really not about the story.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

I would only recommend playing Metroid with an online map, which should be easy to find. With that, I actually think Metroid is a better experience than Metroid Zero Mission, though Zero Mission is easy to argue as the best starting point in the series. Super Metroid I am not so sure about. It's a fantastic game, my second favorite of the series, but it can be a struggle for someone new to the series. It has at least one room notable for the cluelessness a newcomer may have when they reach it fairly early in the game, and overall, if you haven't familiarized yourself with a bit of Metroid logic before hand, you could find yourself wanting help often to navigate the game.

Personally, over both Metroid and Super Metroid, I would recommend starting with Metroid Prime Hunters. Both my little brother and I completed that Metroid game first. Hunters became my favorite Metroid and then I moved on to complete the rest of the series. My little brother is going through something similar. He has completed Hunters around 6-7 times while trying to get through other entries: Super Metroid, Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2. Hunters is designed as to guide you, but also to allow you freedom in terms of how you want to engage in combat and progress. Unless you're going for 100%, there's really not a situation I can think of, like with Metroid and Super Metroid, that'll be even slightly mind numbing and pressure you to just look up what to do. It's a straight forward title.
