@TheLastLugia: Of course but you could argue that if there was a Nintendo Direct in January then the Paper Mario and Mother 3 leaks wouldn't have even happened in the first place.

I don't think leakers could be blamed. The problem is that there are way too many people (Emily, ShockingAlberto, Liam, Eurogamer all had the localization info about Mother 3) who actually knew these secrets. And some of these are not under any NDA.

Paper Mario was apparently kept as the worst kept secret ever, since everyone questioned about it were able to confirm it.

Nintendo needs to not leek these stuff themselves. And they need to tighten their policy regarding how the eShop content is handled (that's how Ryu and TP:HD were revealed).

@jariw: It isn't Nintendo's fault that someone decided to hack into their server to get new of upcoming games because they didn't have patience. Though Nintendo needs to secure down their server.

Nintendo put their data there very openly and they use public encryption keys for unpacking the data. There is just data dumping and analyzing required, no actual hacking is done (in terms of security breaches). The only thing Nintendo can do with their open eShop design is to limit what kind of data they put there.

I can see where you're coming from, they have not been sworn to secrecy about this and of course when someone gets hold of information like this fingers do need to be pointed at the people who need to keep it a secret, which is why you won't see me complaining about TPHD or Hyrule Warriors Legends, the people involved in outing those things only have themselves to blame, they should've been more careful.

But when these people are actively trying their best to find information that someone wants to keep secret for the sole purpose of leaking it that's when they lose my respect. This isn't government secrets or us being deceived and it's for our own good to be informed about this, it's videogames. Ubisoft and Bethesda have both blacklisted Kotaku for leaking AC Syndicate and Fallout 4 respectively, and I don't think they can be blamed for doing this. Sakurai gave up his single-player foray and CGI trailers in Smash partly because they were up on YouTube before a lot of people even had the opportunity to play the game themselves, and again I am on his side, it must have been incredibly frustrating.

And what do these people gain? Kotaku get hits, YouTube videos get watched and Emily Rogers and Liam whoever he is get a few moments of 'fame'. That is all that is 'gained' here, attention seeking know-it-alls are the only beneficiaries. Whilst we all lose as part of the fun is ruined forever before we even got to experience it.

So yeah I'm not on the leakers' side here, they should keep their traps shut. I'd like to think if I saw Zelda U being played through binoculars by spying at Nintendo HQ I'd keep it to myself, but then again we're all different. They're only wrong in my eyes and people who share my view on this point, whilst in their eyes they're doing good stuff. Good on them I guess?

Actually, that might not be why Ubisoft blacklisted them.
"It seems Totilo would have been smarter to simply let those two battles go, especially since his insistence that his publication is somehow a victim has led to more developers and industry figures coming out and talking about why they have an issue with Kotaku. Unsurprisingly, it’s not all about leaking the odd secret.

Ubisoft, one of the companies outed by Kotaku, referred to their last interview with the publication, which was the type of agenda-driven drivel that Kotaku has become infamous for. Instead of writing about the game in a way that might benefit the readers that they profess to care so much about, Kotaku asked a question about the inclusion of women characters that seemed to catch the subjects off guard. Most likely too nervous to answer honestly for obvious reasons, the lack of an answer becomes subject to spin, the narrative being that Ubisoft might just be sexist for not having a pre-approved answer to an off kilter question.

Not content with that, they also tried to imply that the Ubisoft game Watch Dogs was an irresponsible conduit for allowing people to live out racist fantasies. Linking to a video showing a player shooting black people, Muslims, and even Scientologists, the article heavily implies that the game’s scriptwriter, Ethan James Petty, is somehow in agreement with this type of behaviour. The author even goes so far as claiming that this was exactly the type of behavior the developers hoped to see:

There’s no way Ubisoft couldn’t anticipate that players would go on rampages. This predilection for havoc makes it hard to give kudos to Ubisoft for including underrepresented characters. Sure, they’re included—but at best the most they can be is potential victims, not interesting or complex characters.

Despite quoting his Twitter, they didn’t reach out for any official comment from Petty. Well, that might clash with the narrative they were pushing.

It is most likely grotesque misrepresentations like this that have done damage to the relationship Totilo wants to foster, not leaking an early announcement for the latest Assassin’s Creed off the conveyer belt. To be brutally honest, even with my views about blacklists, I can’t blame Ubisoft on that basis."

"Agenda driven non-interview of Ubisoft’s Mark Thompson, titled “Ubisoft refused to talk to me about women”, spent entirely offering his proofless, subjective prospective on things his subject allegedly didn't say. This piece followed another controversy-chasing article—over a nonissue—by Grayson, who had also previously engaged in a discussed, interrupted interview with Blizzard. By its timing, the Ubisoft interview may have been the cause of Kotaku’s claimed blacklisting. "

I agree with you. I also would like to get announcements presented as their surprises they were intended to be. It's a shame that the Nintendo HQ can keep working projects silent for YEARS, and then someone at NoE or NoA accidentally slips info to the wrong person at the very end of the chain.

But it's a double-edged sword. Currently, there is this Wii-U-will-not-get-any-more-games-because-Nintendo-didn't-show-any-2016-stuff-at-E3 meme that goes around, meaning that rumored Nintendo Wii U releases are big news on all forums. And every gaming site (like this one) are basing their business on clicks and rumors. Just look at the number of NX articles that Nintendolife has published, while Nintendo has refused to say anything about NX.

LOL "I'm taking a break" why? Did someone threaten her because she has "leaks" every week? What ever happened to that Monday reveal she was going to have 2 Mondays ago? Either way it's funny how everyone is typing paragraphs about how angry they are that Nintendo hasn't said anything yet. Basically they need to hire someone to be continuously on camera talking about what they're doing, and what's coming up and constant up to the minute updates to satisfy anyone anymore.
I say, keep delaying any talk about it and just mention it when you'll release it so everyone can keep getting angry over nothing.

I'm a believer, given the double dose of prominent sources (and, admittedly, my own desire to believe), coupled with Rogers shutting down her account. I wish we had a list of her past rumors on-hand — I know she's considered a reputable source, but I'd be curious to see how many of her past predictions were on-point.

If this is a Wii U release, it makes my hope for a more consolidated, easily-transferable digital library on Nintendo systems even more strong. But whether it's Wii U, NX or both, I'll be there. Day one, like the kids say.

And I'll add my voice to the folks who are disappointed by the recent surge in leaks. The combination of regular old rumors and rampant data-mining has really sapped some of the joy from being a Nintendo hobbyist, at least for me — it seems like the overwhelming majority of "surprises" are known quantities well before they're announced nowadays. I get that enthusiasm and a desire for publicity are both driving factors, but it certainly makes things a lot less fun than it used to be, at least from where I'm standing.

It's been confirmed. Eurogamer has confirmed the release.

@jariw
I don't think Nintendo was hacked. I think it was more of a person at Nintendo breaking their NDA and giving this info to the leakers, who then decided to reveal it.

Paper Mario? They did leak that as far as I'm concerned.

That Monday reveal she was going to have was the Paper Mario rumor. She decided to release the news early.

@Eat_Pie: From the looks of it we should be getting a Nintendo Direct some time between next week and April 20th then.

I'd say after March 4th because that's when it makes sense for them to release more Zelda U news in a direct.

BigBabyPeach

@Eat_Pie: It's actually pretty interesting to read Liam Robertson's twitter timeline because even he seems to be upset with Emi1yRogers. Apparently there were several people (including Liam) who knew about Mother 3 being in the final stages of localization and all of them agreed not to reveal anything and let Nintendo announce it so they could "have their moment". Emi1yRogers - in desperate need of attention - broke her promise though.

@BigBabyPeach
Yeah. I'd place the blame on both the source and Emily Rogers. She definitely ruined the surprised though, as it would have been much better if it had been revealed by Nintendo. She may lose her source though, because she revealed the info.

So i was watching Smackdown tonight, and someone in the crowd had this sign, which was prominently seen many times during the show, as they were seated directly behind the broadcast position:

Did you see the part when Reigns came down and tore the sign up in an attempt for him to get over with Nintendo fans?
