I already have Earthbound (which is awesome!), but what other RPGs would you recommend that I download for the VC? Are Alphadia Genesis and Pier Solar any good? Pier Solar reminds me a lot of the Lunar series.

Breath of Fire 1 and 2, Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age, and The Mega Man Battle Network games are your only choices, really. Well, Fire Emblem, too. I enjoyed the Breath of Fire games the most out of that lot, but none of them are great, IMO. EDIT: Forgot about Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. Get those.

Alphadia Genesis is a passable port of a bland phone game. I can't recommend spending money on it. Pier Solar is really a game for 16bit JRPG aficionados and not much else. It's not a great game, but if you love the genre, you'll probably enjoy it.

Other than that, yeah, Breath of Fire, Golden Sun, and Fire Emblem on VC. Not a great selection, since the vast majority of great RPGs from that era were either Squaresoft or Enix, and Square Enix has strangely decided that releasing their classics in digital stores isn't a thing they want to do anymore.

So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

Paper Mario and Superstar Saga are really good. Honestly though, you should get a classic controller and check out the Wii's VC. It has a better selection in general. Final Fantasy 3 and Chrono Trigger in particular are two pinnacles of the genre.

It's worth mentioning that the emulation for N64 games on the Wii U's VC is pretty bad when it comes to the way they're shown. Everything is really dark, and it's really noticeable in Paper Mario.

It looked decent in screenshots but its not a great game. Its not bad, just that there are several RPGs that are more entertaining to play, even going back to the days of the SNES. The HD graphics look good to start with but become bland and lifeless after playing a while. It lacks the personality of the old hand-drawn RPGs. The retro 16-bit graphics of Pier Solar just look terrible. Even back in the early days of the SNES, I think they would be considered terrible. Gameplay is okay, but again, it lacks the charm of older games.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

Try Costume Quest 2. It's a very underrated little game, with cute cel-shaded graphics and a heart-warming storyline. Earthbound is one of its inspirations, too.

It wasn't perfectly ported to Wii U (there are some frame rate issues, and the gamepad would have been great for the game's inventory management if they took the time to implement that), but it's a game I'd definitely recommend.

Superstar Saga is pretty decent, and I'd recommend Pac-Man Collection if you're into that kind of thing.

Don't hold off on Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time just because it's not as good as Bowser's inside Story. They are both stellar games regardless of which one is better.
Paper Mario and M&L Superstar Saga are amazing as well, you can't go wrong with any Mario RPG.
Honestly, these games are some of the few good RPGs on Virtual Console. Most of them come from third parties that are close minded to releasing stuff on the VC. COUGH COUGH SQUEENIX COUGH COUGH

Currently bored (while change when I stop being bored)

Enter to Wii shop in Wii mode and download all Square Enix RPG´s: Chrono Trigger, FF I, III, IV, Secret of Mana. All Sega Shining franchise. They never will be on Wii U eshop but you can play them in your Wii U in Wii mode.

Me gusta jugar videojuegos. Soy de México. Sorry my english grammar. I love the Virtual Console, party and fighting games too.

@arronishere: Haters gonna hate, but I loved it. Didn't like Bowser's Inside Story on the other side.

If you're into old styled RPG games, or enjoyed Earthbound, I am recommending Earthbound Beginnings. It can be a little heavy with needing to grind, but outside of that it is a very interesting world with unique characters and story. I can't think of much like it outside of it's own series. If you have to choose between Earthbound or Earthbound Beginnings, I will say you should probably go with just Earthbound, but this can definitely be worth your time afterwards if you enjoyed that one. Just remember it is a bit more aged.

Yeah, I can name at least 5 8-bit Turn-Based RPGs I enjoyed more than Earthbound Beginnings, but none of them are on the Wii U VC. At the very least you can do worse for $7...
