Topic: Playing VC titles on Wii U

Hi guys,

I'm kinda new here. I haven't posted much, but I won't be picking up a Wii U until August (with Pikmin 3 and NSMBU!).

I do have a question though, that I can't see answered elsewhere on this forum: With the VC titles, can they all be played on the Gamepad, or do you need a Pro controller / Wii controller / Nunchuck, etc to play? Same with Wii titles, if I pick up any original wii games, will I need a different controller? I just want to make sure that I have everything needed to play what I want

Thanks

Virtual console games can all be played on the Gamepad. Two player SNES games and up require a Wii pro controller or a Wii U pro controller to play two players, but NES games only require a Wiimote.

For Wii games, you'd need a Wiimote and (depending on the game) a Nunchuck. You currently cannot play Wii games on the Gamepad, and it's doubtful as to whether this feature will ever be introduced (although it should be possible since the Gamepad has a built in sensorbar).

It would be extremely awkward as the Wii remote was designed to be held in one hand (for games that use the remote in a vertical position), whereas (I'm assuming) you'll need to use both hands to properly control the Wii U GamePad.

Thanks guys, that's real helpful.

Just to add only vc games purchased through the eshop can be played on the game pad. Any vc games bought through the Wii mode use the wiimote or classic controller.

This was really helpful because I was about to buy the Metroid Prime Trilogy VC for Wii U and I do not own a single Wiimote.

I just faded away a little. It just seems like everyone has TOO MANY Wii remotes. So you're the most opposite ever...
