So, I guess Iwata said in the briefing that "the company has overcome technological hurdles to making virtual consoles." I guess they were having troubles bringing n64, gamecube and apparently DS games to the Wii U, but have now figured it out.
This also explains why the VC has been so lacking. They've been spreading out their NES and SNES games because that's all they could get on the Wii U so far. So, hopefully now we can get something besides NES and SNES games.
Hopefully this means they're working a deal out with Sega and all their systems. That would be quite a lot more titles if they could get those on there.
A better VC Arcade would be nice, too. Late '80s and '90s arcade games never get the releases they deserve.

Wasn't the hurdle a problem from the Wii VC where every game was its own separate emulator and ROM file? So they were starting from scratch on the Wii U VC with all new emulators needing to be built and tested?
It shouldn't have that big if a hurdle considering after the Vita got it's Virtual Console update it got parity with nearly every game on the PSP/PS3 Virtual Console.
Plus I'm guessing they had to redo contracts for all the third party retro systems and games.
Not sure why I'm so Cynical today.
WAT!
Hey check out my awesome new youtube channel shingi70 where I update weekly on the latest gaming and comic news form a level headed perspective.

Sweet! The good news keep on coming... I hope in the future we'll get TONS of VC titles, rivaling that of the original Wii! (And I hope they will all be NTSC versions and not annoying PAL, ugh!)
@shingi_70: Even that is true for Vita but not all PS1 and PSP are playable on Vita. Heck I think they are going slowly on that device. I still can't play Sypro and Crash on it. (Some reason Sony mobile phone can play Crash and Vita does not.)
I don't think people giving enough money for Classic or Virtual Console services to get them working on emulators quickly.
I hope they make a proper Virtual Console and not just increase the extent of the current system. At the moment it seems they are putting 1MB of ROM data in a 35MB emulator so each game is taking up loads of space.
I hope the next ND unleashes the entire VC library because I have loads of games I've held off completing until I can update them properly!
I only posted this to get my avatar as the forum's thumbnail.

what do you mean by updating them properly?

I've played through the entire Crash and Spyro trilogies on Vita, so you might want to give that another try, buddy. Pretty much everything works on the Vita.
If nintendo get their act together regarding the VC then I have an idea..
Now I hate subscription services but they're great revenue for companies (I have a feeling nintendo isn't too keen on then either)
But we could have a 3 tier subscription bronze, silver and gold
Bronze could give you unlimited access to NES, SNES and GB/GBC
Silver N64, GC and GBA
Gold WII and DS (if WII games ever get the VC treatment)
Obviously each tier will give you access to the previous tiers and price wise i'm thinking £5 for bronze £10 for silver £15 for gold
It wont happen but it would be great for us and nintendo!
