I have to be honest, I don't remember the soundtracks. Maybe that's the point: the music is mediocre and forgettable.
The actual games are brilliant. I don't think there's a bad main series Zelda game. The only 2 I don't own - ALttP and Majora's Mask are pretty well regarded. Plus, I'm DLing LttP in next month and I'll buy Majora 3D.
Is there actually any other series like Zelda where every game is brilliant?

I like how this gen could potentially have every single Zelda game available across the two consoles. If we accept Majora's Mask 3D as an eventuality (cheap, easy to make and a guaranteed million-seller) we only have Four Swords Adventures left. If GameCube ever hits Virtual Console it has a reasonable chance of release. I for one am a very happy Zelda fan!

I think Skyward Sword and A Link Between Worlds are so watered down it is pointless.

Skyward Sword is the only Zelda game to disappoint me more than Phantom Hourglass. Phantom Hourglass was just bad by Zelda standards. Skyward Sword was just bad and only gets worse every time I play more of it. Zelda II still takes the cake as worst Zelda game, though.

I'm trying to figure out what Skyward Sword's and ALBW's watered-downess has to do with C-Olimar's post or why are they pointless.

Did I miss something?

Every game is not brilliant.

If the puzzles and bosses in ALBW were more like say Link's Awakening or Oracle of Ages / Seasons I really would have thought it was great. (Not played the Hero Quest but it is spoilt as I know what happens).

I was about 9 or 10 when I played Links Awakening which was the first Zelda I did play - are children just stupider these days ? I cannot believe that is true.

So... easy games cannot be good?
Damn... looks like Kirby's out of a job.

Link's Awakening was the first Zelda game I finished. I remember the only parts I got really stuck on were Master Stalfos and the Face Shrine (getting to the item or mid-boss).
Stalfos was a pretty hard boss to figure out without a clue (would only know if you had played ALttP first. Though I'm sure the DX version added a hint message, and it probably also rewrote the Face Shrine hint to make it more obvious, I'd imagine.)

The kids aren't any dumber, it's the games that are still being designed with them in mind.

This still has nothing to do with this thread or COlimar's original post though... He just said that he wanted to have all the zeldas across the wiiu and 3ds, and asked if any other Zelda was as brilliant as Majoras Mask.

It's because it only takes one hater to derail an entire topic and in this we have the misfortune of having at least 2.

Back to the original topic at hand, it's probably just to help promote the VC in Japan especially the line of DS titles they will be putting up. Might also get people to look at the eShop for other games once they're already there for the free game.

I think you misunderstood what I said. "Is there actually any other series like Zelda where every game is brilliant?" - I meant the series in general. I've never played Majora's Mask.

He said nothing of the sort.

Its a fact if you compare say Links Awaking DX to A Link Between Worlds the second is miles easier.

The Adventure of Link is a great example of Nintendo actually doing what they say they do. (Target everybody - A friend of mine played it when he was 8 (Last year in Primary school) so did his dad who was at least 40. His dad got close to the end first but he finished it first even at age 8. A great example of being good for everybody). A Link Between Worlds was too easy for everybody. (No challenge whatsoever for me or a 10 year old). When I was 10 I was playing Links Awakening which I found was a fair challenge (And probably still is).

Japan doesn't even get the free game.
