At this rate, it will take forever. But the theme here seems to be nintendos old arcade titles. I guess that some people really like them, mostly out of nostalgia, but they arent really "block buster" hits. I have no idea why they arent releasing one or two money maker titles along with a couple of old NES arcade games.
I guess they are holding back to give the VC a bit more longlivety, but at that rate, it will end up like the Wii VC, dying midway through the consoles lifetime. Also, there i no sign about the WiiU VC being able to handle SNES games with special chips, like Yoshis island, starfox and such, so it may not even possible to complete the whole first party catalogue of games. Also, im missing capcoms claims of "die hard VC support". They have a truckload of games for both, the NES and SNES but it seems that we see just one or two of them every quarter of the year.
The GCN VC alone could have helped the WiiU through the recent game drought, but i have no idea why nintendo isnt implementing it, not to speak of their hinted plans of the "shared library" between the 3DS and the WiiU or their GBA games (which could be the connection to the share feature, since i wouldnt make sense to feature them solei on the WIiU since they are handheld games and the 3DS already got some through the ambassador program.)

The reason that the wii vc died was that the 3rd party support was virtually non existent outside sega, hudon and snk.

I dont see why it can't the Wii VC ran those chips just fine. The only reason we didnt get Yoshi's Island and Star Fox on the Wii VC is because of a licensing issue with the Super FX chip. I mean after all I think it was Mega Man X2 and Street Fighter Alpha II used special chips and those ran fine on the Wii VC.

The Wii VC is far away better than Wii U VC. The Wii U is getting all the same catalog but without any 3rd party support, only nes and snes titles, so it is a lame that only less than 10% of the Wii VC will be in Wii U VC and it will take years to appear.

The solution? continue to download the Wii VC in your Wii or in Wii mode.you have more catalog and without to wait years to have exactly the same.

I'm fine with just NES and SNES games for now. I could buy them on the Wii VC, but games are cheaper on the Wii U, and it's great to play the games on the Gamepad. They should really be releasing games at a faster rate than they are now, however. Really surprising that popular games like Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong Country and Street Fighter 2 still aren't available yet.

Not bothered about N64 games outside of Sin & Punishment since I'll be buying one soon, and I have a GameCube and a Game Boy Advance, so I'll only buy the games that never made it to Europe for those consoles. Just give me the retro Sega consoles and the Neo Geo, and I'll be happy.

There's not a single Zelda game on the Wii U VC at this point in time. How is that even possible?

PAC-MAN, All of the Megamans, Xevious, Solomon's Key, Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, Ghosts 'n Goblins, Spelunker... quite a bit of third party content on there. Not just Mario and Metroid. The Wii VC definitely has more content and a lot of great content but I don't think that's reason enough to keep getting Wii VC content.

The Wii U VC when it has the game you want is a lot better than the Wii VC was. It's just that it lacks content right now. As soon as it has Super Mario Kart I'll be happy.

I agree with you on that. Super Mario Kart with offscreen mode will be awesome, and eventually MK64 will be great too. I wish that we had some Zelda games like "A Link to the Past", but perhaps that won't come until the new 3DS game releases. It seems like a step backwards where we had all of this content on the Wii and now we are having to wait all over again. The worst thing this time around is that the games releasing on the VC now are not the most popular games. Super Mario Bros 3, Mario Bros, Legend of Zelda all were released within about a month of the original Wii VC launch.

What is the best way to play the regular Wii VC stuff? I want Majora's Mask but not sure if it plays well on the Wii remote. I'd prefer for it to be on the Wii U VC, but if I wait for that i'll be waiting for a while....

KingMike

On the Wii you had to have a Classic Controller or GameCube controller.
Only the former is an option on WiiU.

Could it be, in addition to stretching out releases for publicity and even relases over the course of the sysyems life (a policy I hate, no reason to go threw this twice with the second Wii) that Nintendo knows that the Nintendo VC games would outsell the third party ones and that they are creating a kind of third party VC release window for them to be noticed? Because publishers always note that it's hard to sell on a Nintendo Platform as you have to compete witht the big N.

No, they don't. Unless it was a particularly difficult case or a game they had to seriously negotiate to get on the Wii VC it's legally pretty easy. The Australian Classifications for example needed to be redone for the Wii VC originally because most of the games weren't classified under the new system. Now that they are classified they can just release it on the Wii U VC or the 3DS VC or wherever.

If they can get Earthbound on the Wii U VC then getting other content on the Wii U VC should be a cakewalk in comparison.

I completely, only for the fact that I'd prefer it for the 3DS. Japan gets Fire Emblem, and I don't think that it would be too difficult to translate them for us. I mean... it already takes Nintendo eight months to get a game from the Japanese Virtual Console to the American or European Virtual Console, what else takes them so long to release them here besides translating? Do they have to preserve the games in a machine for a certain amount of time or else they'll explode?

Another thing: we won't see Commodore64 or even DKC trilogy on Wii U, for that i say "download first in Wii or Wii mode because you'll never be sure if that game we'll never get Wii U, if it game comes be happy so you can update, if not you will lose it forever."
