During today's Super Smash Bros. live stream, did anyone else notice that Kirby's Dream Land was one of the masterpiece demos? Could this be a sign that original Game Boy games will make their way tp the Wii U VC soon?
I'm guessing it's just what the above poster said, but I'd LOVE to see console GB VC with Super Game Boy enhancements. Surely Ninty has thought about it, the question is, will they do it?

If you're talking Super Game Boy functionality, I don't see Nintendo doing it. If you're talking Wii U Game Boy emulator in general, there will be one present in Super Smash Brothers 4 to make the demo functionality operable for the entire range of featured classics. So the real work is basically done where offering emulated Game Boy classics is concerned..
Would be a shame to see Nintendo sit on this and not take advantage of it, even if it didn't include Super Game Boy functionality. But it wouldn't be the first time since the Wii also had a Game Boy emulator as seen in Kirby's Dream Collection, yet never had any VC downloads available of classics like Super Mario Land II.
I can understand not wanting to deal with Wii GB games as the system was at the end of its rope anyway. But the Wii U is still new and already has one handheld on it, so I would hope that they consider Wii U GB games. Mostly because with NES and GB shared between the U and the 3DS, cross-buy would be something worth considering.

The game boy games are running from the game itself, not an outside emulator. I doubt this proves anything
There is absolutely no significance that the Game Boy emulator is embedded into Super Smash Brothers 4 and is on the disc. Nor did anyone ever suggest that wasn't the case since obviously these Virtual Console demos are on the disc.
Nintendo isn't going to make you download a demo that's only reachable through Super Smash Brothers, nor were they going to set up a game streaming system just to sell Virtual Console games through Super Smash Brothers 4. So obviously, this material was going to reside on the disc itself and run off of it.
The only thing happening outside of Smash Brothers is if someone decides to convert a demo into a full purchase and follows the link to each game's respective eShop page after demoing it.
As this proves, they have a Game Boy emulator running on the Wii U. That's the significance here and the purpose of this thread is to speculate on if Nintendo will run with this asset by introducing Game Boy/Game Boy Color downloads on the Wii U.

To be fair, the Luigi Bros. game that was included with Super Mario 3D World uses the same emulator that the VC uses, so it doesn't run from the game itself.
But it'll be structured different in Smash.
Just my two cents.

You don't download anything to play Luigi Bros. on Super Mario 3D World. The modified NES rom of Mario Bros. and their Wii U NES emulator are present on the SM3DW disc.
But just what significance does that have, here?
And he's essentially saying that this is meaningless because the emulators and roms reside on the Super Smash Brothers 4 disc itself. But that's an irrelevant fact that has no bearing here. What's relevant is that they have a Game Boy emulator up and running on Wii U hardware that could be easily adapted for something much more significant than just selling eShop downloads only usable on a different platform than the Wii U (despite demoing the product here, proving that the full product could be made available on the Wii U proper).
In my opinion, having a Game Boy masterpiece in Smash means nothing as well.

It very well might not, but it does prove that they have a ready made Game Boy emulator for the Wii U.
For the fans that want to enjoy classics like Link's Awakening on their Wii U and see Nintendo's full range of classic handhelds covered here (Complementing the existing GBA section and the confirmed addition of DS downloads), let's hope they take advantage of this asset to the fullest extent possible.
Just played both Dreamland games through to completion via Kirby's Dream Collection for the Wii, via my Wii U's backwards compatibility mode. I think they made the transition just fine and this is just a basic emulator with no support for Super Game Boy enhancements, color palettes, etc.
It also means that there is an N64 emulator up and running on the Wii U. Although, it hasn't been officially announced, I'm certain that there will be N64 masterpieces.

It doesn't mean anything of the sort, since there isn't any confirmation that any N64 games will have demos available here.
Would be nice to see though, but unless they're planning to launch several classics in the next few days, it's not going to happen. They're not going to demo Virtual Console downloads that can't actually be purchased at this time.
If any are there, they're surely going to have to wait for the day when a patch unlocks access to them to coincide with their eShop release since having demos of games like Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time that can't actually be purchased, defeats the point of what essentially is a marketing tool to promote the Virtual Console.
Eh...not necessarily. Just because a game hasn't been released on the VC doesn't mean it can't be a masterpiece. The mode is called "Masterpieces", not " Demos of games on the eShop that we want you to buy."

Except there are no announcements regarding this. There probably are no links for the GB games and most likely the eShop link will ask you to buy it on the 3DS

Evidently, there's some confusion here. I suggest both of you go to YouTube and fire up the most recent Nintendo Direct and find the section relevant to this discussion.
Eh...not necessarily. Just because a game hasn't been released on the VC doesn't mean it can't be a masterpiece.
Nintendo has already confirmed how this is going to work. They're timed demos that the customer, if they desire, can proceed to purchase via the eShop to unlock the full Virtual Console experience. Not sure why that's open for debate...

Considering that I can go into my Wii U, log into the eShop, and see 3DS content (And presumably, although I've never tried, also make purchases), I very much doubt it. And even if it does instruct you to fire up a 3DS to purchase the full experience, so what?
It still doesn't change the fact that it's emulated on the Wii U for the purposes of the timed demo experience.
