I CALLED IT!! But in all seriousness this is amazing and I hope that mother (or earthbound two) is announced last at the direct so Nintendo can put the final blow into winning e3

So, Earthbound Beginnings or Earthbound first?

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Earthbound is so much better, and the stories aren't really connected. Play Earthbound and if you love the series give Beginnings a go.
Fingers crossed Earthbound...2? eventually sees release!

This was probably a one time thing. But I'm happy about it. I have an unusual love for old-school JRPGs, so I'm having fun, even if it's a bit of a slog. Working my way through the cemetary now...

Might look at some gameplay videos first before buying, but I can't buy anything right now anyways. but yeah, maybe Mother 3 has already been worked on and last year's E3 was hinting that. owo

The game may not be anything special compared to the other entries in the series, but I'm just glad I can finally buy it. I was expecting them to announce a localization of Fire Emblem: Binding Blade or Mother 3 during E3 because they're more relevant due to the Smash Bros DLC, but this was still a pleasant surprise. Hopefully we can eventually see releases of more Japan-only games like the ones I mentioned, or even the Starfy games.

I loved how this came out of nowhere. In fact I was so amazed that I just couldn't follow the diagram of the format of the championship lol. It's so nice being surprised especially after the leaks of Ryu. I am happy I can play this finally. Roll on Mother 3.

Edit* Seems that the kid that could translate Japanese in the Championship trailer was a hint after all....that or Nintendo are really into child labour!

I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.

This amplifies my hope for a Mother 3 release, with Lucas being announced for Smash and the Mother 3 acknowledgement at the Digital Event from last year, there's not better time.

Backloggery. Now playing: 3D Dot Game Heroes, Donkey Kong, EarthBound Beginnings, Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams, and Pac-Man Championship Edition DX+.

I don't care how bad it is, it's a part of gaming history and if buying it (and maybe Lucas in Smash) means "Hmm, maybe we should release more Japan-only games like Mother 3 overseas" then it's allll worth it!

I'm taking exactly that logic though buying Roy in Smash is just as important as buying Lucas in Smash as both their games are Japan exclusives.

So are these the same characters like in Earthbound/Mother 2? Or is this "Ninten" a different character from Ness?

My reasoning for not getting Roy (at least right away) is that it's not like there's a shortage for FE characters in Smash.

On one hand, I want to support this game in the hopes that buying it will let us get Mother 3. On the other hand, this game looks super grindy and not very fun. Should I waste my money buying this game to support the vague hope that we may get Mother 3, the apparently amazing sequel to the awesome Earthbound? Or not waste my money on a game that looks like a crappy version of Earthbound?

Check out my YouTube channel if you love gaming, and Nintendo (especially Metroid) I think you'll enjoy my videos. :)

They're different characters. The only characters that return in the next game are Gygas and a couple of enemies (i.e. Hippie, Starmen, Mooks.) Though there have been fan theories as to how Ninten and Ness are related, but I don't really buy any of them. Like the one where Ninten is Ness's dad, which couldn't really work out, seeing as there wouldn't be enough time for Ninten to have a kid and Ness to become 13.
Edit: Oh, and the Flying Men. The Flying Men are in both Earthbound and this game, as well.

Oh okay, thanks! I just assumed it was the same characters in all the games

To all who think Mother 3 could show up in the Digital Presentation: I don't think it's gonna happen. I mean, c'mon. BOTH of the Japan-exclusive Mother games being localized at the same time? That's too good to be true! Though I won't deny that Mother 1 being localized increases Mother 3's chances a little.

You speak of something being too good to be true, when we just got the first Earthbound game.

This is E3. It's like Christmas. Dreams are MEANT to come true here.

...Good point. Anything can happen!
