How will online games such as Mario Kart or Metroid Prime Hunters work... METROID PRIME HUNTERS WOULD BE AWESOME especially if they keep the online mode and offer optional dual stick controls
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

If playing multiplayer GBA games didn't work on DS, then this probably won't either.
On the plus side though, games will be cheaper to get if its on VC and with the restore points, maybe playing games like Mass Attack will be tolerable.
Playing with the gamepad on a vertical position showing both DS screens at the same time wouldn't be completely impossible, since it comes with more than enough buttons on each side to play DS games just right.
It would only be a bit uncomfortable.
Rather defeats the point of playing such a game on a console if all you do is look at the gamepad. Plus, many of the games I've came across that asked you to rotate the screen still only utilized a single screen. So for such software on the Wii U, an option to rotate the screen being sent to the tv 90 degrees (and button configuration options to adapt the controls) is a must if it's going to be adapted for a console.
Take this pair of screenshots from the Konami collection for example (Ignore the second pair of screenshots on the right that show the options screen). Rotated is the best way to enjoy a game like Contra in this collection since none of the limited screen resolution of the DS is wasted on pillarboxing like it is if you hold the DS normally (Arcade Contra was a 3:4 vertically oriented release, not 4:3). If this collection saw release on the Wii U Virtual Console, your best picture quality will be rotated within the game itself as seen below which you'd then want the emulation program to rotate back around again so that it would look correct when displayed on your tv.
And DudeSean's swap option is also going to probably be necessary in some cases beyond just for enabling off screen play in a game like Mario Kart DS. I've came across games that didn't utilize the touch screen for control yet still used it to display the action in lieu of the top screen. If such a game is going to be played on a console, you're going to want to be able to swap the screens so that the gameplay screen is displayed on your tv.
I was just commenting that it could be completely possible to play games entirely on the gamepad. Not that it would be a default or something.
now they have no excuse to not bring GBA to the 3DS VC

I'm with you on this one brah. But then again Iwata did say that he wants to enrich the virtual console so maybe he's starting to use DS games for Wii U since they both fit perfectly.

Just how did you arrive at that conclusion? As I see it, DS games on the Wii U have absolutely nothing to do with GBA downloads on the 3DS. And GBA games are already there. Just be patient since general releases are all but a certainty.
yup just doing the good old Hoenn/Half-Life 3 Confirmed type of joke
but I still believe we MIGHT see GBA VC someday soon.(by "we" I mean the people that didn't manage to enter the 3DS ambassador program)

@Atariboy
You are right in that the enthusiasts who have been into the platform for more than just this generation won't be that interested in most of the titles. We'll just be hanging out for the handful of obscure and unreleased games and that's fine. However that doesn't mean it's something to not be hyped about. Having a large library of games at your fingertips ready to download is a pretty cool thing.
What about the people who are new to the platform? Download Super Mario Galaxy 3 and get the first two for $30. A special on the Metroid Prime Trilogy when Metroid Prime 4 launches. I don't think this is something not to be interested in.

i wish DS games would be available via eSop for the 3DS/3DS XL :/
but most of them are pretty cheap nowadays (physical copies)... and Nintendo is known for their insane prices when it comes to the digital versions of their games (which makes no sense whatsoever), but yea..
would really like to see a huge library of DS games on the eShop for the 3DS
I'll possibly get excited when Nintendo actually delivers on the goods and quits just promising them. No N64 or GBA VC games and the disappointing support on both VC services reveal an entirely different story.

3DS disappointing? Wut?

My question, how will games not look like crud? Seriously, the thought of playing some DS games a big screen terrifies me unless they make some of the games look better.
