Sometimes it almost feels as though NoA wants me to get things "another way." There's really no excuse for letting popular titles from last gen go out of print, or just not localizing 1st party titles at all.

So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

Buying the old carts? That's not nice, Nintendo doesn't get any money that way!

Another trailer!

It's official. NoA doesn't care about our Virtual Console.

Need I remind you Mario 3? This is nothing new.

Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.

I remember Sonic Blast was part of Nintendo's 8-Bit Summer. Just not the SAME summer as the rest of the games they advertised that one year. How silly of us to expect that!

Need I remind you that A) The third Parties pretty much bought out the Wii U VC slots for this month to get the Halloween stuff out there, and B) The DKC Anniversary is in November, so they'll probably release it next month. If you can't wait just a few more weeks, why do you even bother with VC?

It's weird how most of the time Europe and North America get the same VC games at the same time but others have long delays. It took 18 months for Europe to get the GBC Mario Golf game.

The interesting thing about this game is that when playing it still looks pretty good. Then you also remember that it's twenty years old and you think about how amazing it was at the time. I remember first playing it around 1997 as a rental and it blew me away. And this was '97, the N64 was out and I had already seen Super Mario 64 and Mario kart 64 demos in the shops. My brother even had a Playstation and I still thought that Donkey Kong Country was impressive. I can't imagine how non-kids in 1994 reacted when they saw it for the first time.

What I didn't remember and what is obvious now that I play it is how smooth it runs. Is it just me or is this the American version of the game? Because it seems like it's running at 60Hz/60fps. So what I want to know is if Donkey Kong Country could do 60fps twenty years ago and it was as good as this... why is every developer dropping the ball now? I don't think we knew in the 90s how good we were getting it. Either that or not enough people give devs and publishers crap for short-changing us now.

A Miiverse post mentioned that it was the American (60 hz) version of the game, but that's not much of a source. I think 60 fps is great, but a lot people in the 90s would have probably given up 60 fps for 30 fps if it meant having games that looked as great as they do today.

Bought Donkey Kong Country and absolutely loving it so far. Stuck on the forest world at the moment but it's definitely refreshing to play a game that puts up a challenge. Now looking forward to the second and third games. Question... Do I need to collect all the K-O-N-Gs in the game for 100% completion?

Also thought this was pretty cool. Seems it's not only Mario who has a 99 lives trick. Does this actually work?

No. The KONG letters do not affect completion percentage. To get 101%, you need to find all bonus areas as well as finish all the levels.
(you'll know you've finished a level completely when you have a ! after the name on the map)

I don't know if you need to visit all the Kong family members at least once or not, supposedly you did in the second.
(and the maximum is 102% in the second and 105% in the third, I think)

Yes, it does work. It can be a little tricky to pull off, but once you can get the timing right it's easy to do. Definitely recommended.

This. I like how some people are saying NA is "never" getting these games. I've learned to be patient with VC releases.. At least in NA we get indies like Shovel Knight first.

Can you have more than 99 lives in DKC1? I was sure you could in DKC2 (it just won't show more than 99).
