I have been waiting years for this game to be re-released for years, and I have to say its not as good as I remembered, sadly. First off, collecting the color coded bananas did get a bit annoying at times, especially when its a small section that requires at least 3 kongs with no kong barrel in site. The was also annoying especially at the creepy castle boss. Lack of Rambi. The combat was a bit too simple. Way too many kong coins with very little spending objectives. Lack of throw-able barrels. Then there's just one mini boss in the game. I liked traveling through all these lands discovering its secrets and puzzles though.

I still had fun with game, and last night I beat it at 101%. I will always look back at this game with nostalgic feelings, but it could of been better.

(Sorry about the poor writing. I didn't feel like writing at a college level; anymore today)

If I hadn't recently beat this on an actual N64 I would have gotten it. The gameplay hasn't aged well for sure, but it's one of my favorite games because it's so unique. Also I really like collectathons.

I would have never guessed Weezing was so useful until I played a HeartGold Nuzlocke!

THe camera is the worst thing to ever happen to this game

It's a good, if fairly bloated game. The camera could use some work. Physics are a little too slippery. Diddy's jetpack controls are horrendous. Some minigames are unreasonably hard. Thank heavens for the save state feature. It would be nearly impossible to complete this game within a reasonable time frame otherwise.

I gotta say I didn't have any problem with the camera. Sure, a right-analogue-based camera would certianly be ages better, but L-based certainly works. It's the exact same camera controls as pretty much every 3D N64 game, including both 3DS Zelda remakes if you don't own a New 3DS.

The controls can be a pain in the butt, but it's revealing its greatness slowly. I think it lags behind Super Mario's swift controls, but I've not long started and have only just released Diddy who is far more pleasing to maneuver around as. The crisper finish on the VC is quite something too (as someone who was obsessed with this platform at the time, these graphics still impress me to this day). I did recently buy the N64 game having missed out at the time, but sold it on quickly (along with SM64, which was painful to do, not to mention giving up a saved complete game to go back to) to switch to possibly building a collection at the touch of the gamepad (too bad I don't see the actual selection swelling too wide). I'm now putting N64 buying on hold until I know the extend of the VC releases.

I'm about 75% done with the game now, and I have something to say:
You know that rabbit in Fungi Forest? **** that ****ing rabbit. That was the WORST thing I've encountered yet. Probably even worse than attempting to fly through timed rings with the horrendously unwieldly controls of Diddy's jetpack.
Seriously, that rabbit race is completely unwinnable UNLESS the enemy under the tree blocks the rabbit's path long enough, which only happens sometimes, and can't be relied upon! How broken is that? You shouldn't have to be forced to depend on a game engine quirk to win a minigame! That's utter BS!
Also, Beaver Bother. That minigame is broken as **** too. It just doesn't work. Those ****ing beavers only drop down the hole when they feel like it. I honestly can't imagine how ANYONE could put up with this kind of absolute BS without the aid of the save state feature of the Virtual Console (and even then it's still unreasonably hard!).
I just... I had to vent. It was too much. Never again, Rare. Never again.
I only hope Yooka-Laylee doesn't pull this kind of BS.

Yoshi

About that race in Fungi Forest, are you talking about the second race? If so, did you use the OrangSprint? That ability isn't unlocked until a later level.

Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.

Of course I did, but the rabbit gets a headstart due to the time it takes to transform, plus he runs at pretty much the exact same speed as Lanky does, which means you can't catch up by conventional means. Most of the race he'll be ahead of you, and there are little to no opportunities to shorten the distance between Lanky and the rabbit. There's only a single curve he takes a little too wide (near Diddy's rocket barrel area), but it isn't enough to overtake him. You have to retry over and over until he gets stuck on the enemy under the tree trunk long enough for you to catch up.

This is true.

I finished it again earlier, not sure I'd recommend this game to anybody who doesn't remember it from childhood. The collectathons are tedious and can totally suck the fun out of the game. It's a shame, because the game still oozes character, but if the gameplay isn't enjoyable it's hard to recommend.

I think I'm at the point every time I play this game where I can't be bothered to collect anymore things.

I have to agree as well. I do call it a good fun game, but the collecting can become a drag especially when you're desperately searching a stage for the very few last things you need to collect in order to progress. I had also forgotten how the controls are more awkward compared to Super Mario 64. Its still not a bad game, its far better than many other 3D platformers of the time from other companies. I think Super Mario 64 is the best of course, then Donkey Kong 64, Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie occupying the next three places, but I haven't decided upon the order. I've never played Conker's Bad Fur Day, so I can't comment on that.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

I managed to complete this a coupe days ago, the only time this game really bothered me was Frantic Factory. The camera was near motion sickness for me often, because it would fight me so much, even if I let the camera win it would do wild things, which is so weird for a Nintendo or Rare game. Banjo didn't make me sick, idgi. That entire level is quite terrible, it's hard to navigate. Anyway, the whole game overall was fun. I'm glad I annoyed the fart out of them in Club Nintendo asking for it every single survey I did. But it's an obvious third place to both N64 Banjo games.
