Am I dreaming too much of this ever happening?

I don't see why not. Konami seem hell bent on releasing every other single iteration of Castlevania on virtual console. You can even get PC Engine Rondo on the Wii Shop Channel. Perhaps the stumbling block is that it's a finger licking awful game and so they might think no one would buy it. I'd buy it though and probably convince myself that it wasn't that bad in the process. Even though it is fried chicken.

Having said all that they never offered it on the WIi did they?

Despite what reviewers such as AVGN and JonTron say about the Castlevania games on the Nintendo 64, I'm still willing to try them out. Nevermind that now though, I'll be moving onto Donkey Kong 64 on Thursday after the NES Ninja Gaiden trilogy.

Backloggery. Now playing: 3D Dot Game Heroes, Donkey Kong, EarthBound Beginnings, Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams, and Pac-Man Championship Edition DX+.

They are disappointing, I can promise you that. Or at least the first one is, I didn't buy the sort-of sequel but I understand it's pretty similar. That was what I felt when it was released and I can't imagine that the gameplay is going to have improved with the passage of time. Perhaps "I'm lovin' it awful" is a bit unfair. Definitely a bit crap though.

There are far worse games on the N64.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

I know the controls and camera were pretty horrible in these two games, but you gotta admit that the closing of the book (in the titles opening story) and that haunting music was pretty good at the time. Some of the other elements in the game were pretty good too, but I think it would have been better as a 2D game, but still, they were not that bad...at least I have both on the N64 and could still play them every now and then, but yeah, there are worse games...look at the horrible camera movements in Donkey Kong 64, or jumping into a cannon in Super Mario 64 (where the camera constantly moves instead of staying still), or even worse, Mega Man 64. The N64 was an amazing system at the time, but most of the games are now looking blocky...it's one system that's not going to stand the test of time in 30-40 years, where as systems like Nintendo NES, Super NES and Sega Genesis still look good.

I don't know about that, Donkey Kong Country looks a mess imo.

there are worse games on the N64 but even at the time Castlevania was not considered a must-have by any stretch, in the same way that Mario was. It may even have been this game that forced me to abandon my Nintendo loyalty for the first time, given that SOTN was on the playstation at the time.

But yeah it's not a complete loss, just not in the same league as Castlevania III, Super Castlevania IV, SOTN, even SNES Rondo

How? It still holds up well today. Not as groundbreaking as it was back then but in no way could it be called a mess.

I suppose because they went for that sort-of more realistic style, which looked amazing then but pales in comparison to modern attempts at the same thing, where as traditional sprite based games haven't really been improved much upon since and still hold up as their own style. I've not explained that very well but hopefully you get the drift.

Each to their own but it really doesn't hold up well today, it's like a grainy clay animation.

Its the Super Nintendo. It still holds up well today for a Super Nintendo game. The Donkey Kong Country trilogy are the best looking games on the Super Nintendo.

Legacy of Darkness was considered by some fans to be the best 3D Castlevania back in the day (and yes some others don't like it still today), despite its control problems it offers a great gothic atmosphere, outstanding beautiful soundtrack, 4 different playable characters each with a different story and multiple endings based on your actions. The story script of the game is worth of mention as it was one of the most complete and robust back in the day, plus the in game cutscenes in real time were pretty good for N64 avarage.

Besides Castlevania III which other Castlevania allows you to play as a Belmont, a Werewolf, a Catholic Priest and a young Sorceress each one with their particular story and endings? Overall is a pretty fun and complete game once you overcome the control scheme, in my opinion is a better game than Lords of Shadows trilogy despite the age gap.

I'm glad I didn't listed negative reviews back in the day and I was able to play it, personally I will purchase this game in a heartbeat just due the beautiful OST, the robust story script and the great atmosphere (and the control is not that bad once you get used to it).

Plus it includes the full story and characters of Castlevania 64 so is like 2 games in one

I've played Legacy of Darnkess (and Castlevania 64) more or less in the same time I've played SOTN in PSX and despite that I was able to fully appreciate both games, SOTN is a legendary masterpice although Legacy of Darkness even with it's own flaws is a good game that sadly didn't get the attention it deserved.

One negative side effect of this was the cancel game of Castlevania Resurrection for Sega Dreamcast which was to be played as Sonia Belmont, in game graphics looked even more gorgeous than those in Lament of Innocence which is not surprising as the Dreamcast had more RAM than the PS2 but what hold it back was no DVD format for games. Try to check the images and the few videos and OST of Castlevania Resurrecion out there in the Internet and tell me they aren't beautiful?

I would love this to happen. Legacy of Darkness and Castlevania 64 are the among the best in the series IMO.

I'd much rather the N64 Goemon games. Especially the second one. But we never got those.

I'm also disappointed we didn't get a VC release of Bloodlines, but Konami completely ignored their Genesis games for Wii VC releases for some reason.

I personally think that Yoshi's Island holds that honor.

If it is a dream, it's a nightmare.

If much worst nightmares like Solomon's Key were among the first Virtual Console releases on Wii U, then why not?
