Hey Guys, I'm looking to get a Wii U this weekend and had a question about Axelay. As Axelay was only released in Australia for PAL regions, I was wondering has anyone from the UK or EU managed to transferred it across to a Wii U? Is it a simple matter of swapping console regions back and forth like the Wii VC. Cheers.

I once changed region settings to get a game I wanted that wasn't released in my country. One of my games and one of my demos downloaded from the UK Wii Shop (ToriBash: Violence Perfected and Fast Draw Showdown Demo) did not transfer to my Wii U. Nintendo couldn't help so be cautious.

Games that don't transfer to Wii U will still be active on Wii like nothing happened.

Sorry to bump this old thread but just wanted to say I had this problem as I live in the UK and had purchased Axelay from the Australian Wii Shop Channel on my old Wii. When I bought my Wii U (at launch) and did the system transfer, it initially wouldn't copy over with the rest of my VC/WiiWare downloads as it's a different region release....however, I eventually got around it by changing my Wii U region to Australia, setting up a dummy Australian NNID (you can't access the Wii shop on Wii U without a NNID despite not needing one on the original Wii), changing the region on my old Wii to Australia as well, and then doing the system transfer.....it worked completely fine and just added Axelay to all my other transferred downloads, and my Wii shop activity still shows all my UK purchases as well, I then just switched back to my main UK NNID and switched my Wii U's region back to UK and all's working fine.
The only things to remember are that if I ever need to redownload Axelay for any reason, I'll need to change my Wii U region setting back to Australia and use the dummy Australian NNID to do it. Also, as with the original Wii, changing the region setting on the Wii U and then accessing the E shop (either the Wii U or Wii one) will wipe out any existing Wii Points or E-shop credit you have so best to do it when you've got a zero balance.
You have no chance to survive, make your time!

Thanks for the heads up. I will try to transfer ToriBash this way. I really wanna get this over to my Wii U like the other 140 WiiWare games I transfered.
