Topic: 0.0% chance of Classic Mortal Kombat on VC

So apparently the creator of Mortal Kombat said on Twitter that there is no chance for classic Mortal Kombat games to be released on Wii U Virtual Console. I wonder why that is, it shouldn't take much effort to do from a technological standpoint. Is it a publishing issue? A "Wii U is Doomed" issue? What do you think?

To be fair, the question asked about the SNES versions. As to why, most likely because he doesn't feel they would sell well enough to be worth his time. I don't see how it could be a technological or licensing issue, but then again who knows. Either way, I don't care if they come to VC or not, since the games are available on many different consoles.

It's pointless? Why would it release its older, archaic games onto a console no one's going to dip into?

No one wants to do work for no reason at all.

They should just do the Arcade collection the next time they get around to it. (Either individually or as the set).

From that era very few of the Arcade -> Console ports are acceptable.

The old Mortal Kombat games suck. And these are the versions without the gore, which is a big part of the appeal of the franchise.

If they're going to re-release these on a Nintendo machine, then they might as well just make a quick port of the arcade versions.

Still, why do that? How many people that would want these don't own another system that does have access to these games (like the 360 or PS3)?

Well, me for 1. I wouldn't mind having Mortal Kombat (even without gore) on home console and Wii U is my only home console

The first one is the only one without the gore, the other 2 are uncensored.

Arcade MK has quarter munching difficulty for single player. The SNES version is far more balanced for single player.

Actually WB didn't get the MK licensing when Midway closed down. Ed Boon has it under his new studio NeatheRealm Studios, so yeah this guy decides what happens to the MK games not WB.

Only the first was censored. Nintendo got the message when fans complained loudly (and perhaps because MK2 was released two months before ESRB-rated games started to get released, they let MK2 ship unedited with a warning on the box).
And by complaining, you couldn't open a game magazine in the latter part of '93 without finding a few angry letters and some Sonic-killing-Mario fanart (one can only wonder how many of those Nintendo Power got even though of course they wouldn't publish them), but perhaps the influencing factor was that the Genesis version supposedly sold twice as many copies as the SNES.

Isn't a 0.0% chance of an old game arriving on new consoles basically permission to pirate it? They don't want our money even though we want to give it to them so we just play the game anyway by other means.

There is Mortal Kombat Kollection (PS3/360 versions I think are ok ? / PC one will stop working as of July 1st).

The Megadrive and SNES versions deserve to be forgotten.

I don't think they should even release the old ones, at all. The SNES vs. Genesis version isn't even relevant when the reboot basically makes them obsolete, and it wasn't even all that good, after a while, IMO.

Okay, there is that. But I mean with other games that really aren't coming back in any form on any platform.

And I would totally download SNES Mortal Kombat 2 and 3 if they ever came.

At least they're honest. One less thing to worry about now.

I'd rather see the N64 games, but anything would be welcome really.
