Might as well include them as that's what some gamers have come to expect and would be sure to complain about it if they weren't there. And for people that don't care about them, you can just ignore them (as long as they're not too intrusive). The best thing Nintendo can do is try their best to make as many people as possible happy and I think that that'd be the best way to do it.
We can have this conversation without making it personal. Thank you~

I don't care either way, as long as I can play the game I'm ok.

You get a gold trophy for coming first in a cup during Mario Kart.
Thats an achievement.
Achievements make me play the game longer. I played Mario Kart 7 to get more coins to unlock new kart pieces. If those kart pieces didn't exist, I wouldn't have played it as much as I did.
If there was an achievement to win using every kart piece at least once then I'd try to achieve it. Since there's no incentive to use other kart pieces than the set-up I like then I won't.
I was looking around and cannot find it. You can actually use the points you earned from Achievements?
If that's happening, then I hope it's implemented in WiiU if they even bring a system like that to the console.
Not exactly, but some games do offer avatar rewards such as new clothes for getting certain achievements. That's the type of thing I'd like to see expanded upon.

Absolutely yes. After owning a PS3 for a while I now really miss trophies when playing on my Wii. It's about bragging rights, and also simply a concrete record of personal achievement. It perfectly creates the false sense of accomplishment that I seek in games to compensate for my empty and meaningless life. I'll be really disappointed if they aren't included.
I'm sure I remember Miyamoto saying a couple of years ago that he was against the idea, that incentive should be provided entirely by good game design rather than tacked on mechanics such as achievements/trophies, which worries me. But with the technological power of Wii U indicating that Nintendo are hoping to steal customers from the "hardcore" market, it would seem senseless to not provide them with this, since they're so accustomed to it and, judging from my friends at least, mostly pretty fond of it. The online accounts promised show that we're going in that direction anyway. My hopes are high!
BlazBlue had a hidden achievement where you had to do a specific character's special move while fighting a specific opponent. 100 times.
Hidden achievements aren't really obvious sometimes. If you didn't know you had to do that there was no reason to do it. And accidentally unlocking it without knowing would take a long long time.
Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.
I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!
I'm for achievements that are based on skill, not your ability to tolerate endless exploring of the same level looking for a hidden item or forced replays of an entire game using a character that is only slightly different from the main character.
^yeah this. But that's really in the developers' hands, Nintendo can only choose to have achievements or not, I don't think they'd have much say in what they are.
^And also, games dedicated to achievement points only that take a ridiculously easy amount of time and effort to get are just horrible, they ruin the point.
achievement |əˈCHēvməntl noun 1 a thing done successfully, typically by effort, courage, or skill: to reach this stage is a great achievement. 2 the process or fact of achieving something: the achievement of professional recognition | assessing ability in terms of academic achievement | a sense of achievement. what the hell is wrong with the bold D:

Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!
