The rank depends on the actual system the game is played on.
Puzzle (Tetris, Meteos, Picross, Puzzle Quest... all great)Turnbased RPG/Strategy (Panzer General and clones, Age of Mythologies DS, Pokemon editions and their Mystery Dungeon spin offs)Racing/Sports (from Grand Slam Tennis over Ferrari Challance to Excite Truck - love working motion controlls )
previous : RTS, FPS and action RPG - I spend way too much time and effort on them when I used to game only on my PC.

For me the number one spot is easy:1)Shooters (1st and 3rd person)After that it gets a little tough to choose my other favorite genres, but here we go:2)Fighting (Mainly 2D, but some 3D fighters are amazing)3)Strategy (turn based and RTS)

Edit - apart from RPG's i just dont like them -Of course I don't mean zelda style games by that.

I like plenty of genres but if I'm to limit myself to 3 I'd have to say:1. J-RPG2. Adventure (Primarily exploration based. I like point & click too, just not as much)3. Shmup

Just to be clear, is schmup for FPS or TPS? or is it like side scrolling arcade shooting like gunstar heroes?

Here goes:1: JRPG. 2. Adventure. 3. Fighting. This was really hard after JRPG. There's a bunch of genres floating around at 2 and 3.
Lieutenant Commander of the Lesbian Love Brigade
There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

Neither... Shmups are games like Gradius, Darius, R-Type, Donpachi, Raiden, UN Squadron, Star Soldier and so forth. You know, the "maneuvering an incredibly overpowered spaceship/helicopter/jetplane/penguin etc and blasting away a consistent stream of enemies coming at you from every direction of the screen while trying to safely zigzag between a variably dense sea of bullets" genre. I'm sure you know it when you see it.
And for the record, games like Gunstar Heroes/Contra/Eduardo the Samurai Toaster are "run'n'gun" games.

I rule when it comes to games. So deal with it.

1. Platformer2. RPGs (particularly those of the action variety)3. Puzzle/Arcade
Shooters (of any type; Shmups, FPSs, they're all good) would be my 4th, I guess. It was hard choosing between those and puzzlers for my 3rd.
