I know that with homebrew it is possible to play dvd movies on Wii, but if Nintendo could or would let us have the option, would you use it and/or want it?

I do what I do how I do

YES I WANT IT!! I know there are many people who don't need it, but I do! It makes everything look more neater and organized if there doesn't have to be a separate DVD player next to the Wii

No, it wrecks the drive. But even if it didn't it would get about as much use as the Internet Channel; we've already got a DVD player that's region free and Progressive thank you.

Nope the TV my Wii is hooked up to has a DVD upscaler that gets far better quality than the Wii could achieve, and it's a lot cheaper to replace than if I wore down my Wii's drive.

Besides that, the Wii remote is just begging to be used as a DVD remote!

it'd be ok I guess, but nothing necessary...I have devices that play DVDs hooked up to pretty much every drive on my house, most which also can play Div-X and other formatted videos as data...it really isn't necessary.

I'd like to not have too much stuff lying around, so yes. what's this about it screwing up the drive though?

I use the same username on TVTropes and youtube. look me up!

My virginity is one thing, but I can't let the pedophiles have my Wii FriendCode®

The Wii's lens is not designed to read cheap quality DVD's, and also not designed to read discs continuously. So the poor quality DVD spinning in your drive for 2 hours straight will damage the lens over time.

It wouldn't, Kim - that's a load of bull. There are lots of games on the Wii (and definately on the GameCube), that continuously access the disc for a start. All games access the disc differently depending on what and how they load the data - some do read it continuously, especially if they are displaying FMV anywhere, reading music directly from the disc or constantly loading in new objects into the play area. It just needs the proper software and not some hacked homebrew.

I'd definately buy DVD playback even though I have an upscaling DVD player - it'd just be a nice feature to have and would be worth a one-off 500 point download.

No, you are full of bull. You can hear the disk drive when it is loading. Take Metroid Prime 3 for example; it only reads the disc after you shoot a door. Listen closely. The rest of the time it uses RAM.

Already have it on Homebrew. =P
Before I bought my PS2 last month though I would have really wanted it. All it require is a firmware update so yes just to have it.

Strongly recommend uninstalling it unless you are prepared to pay the $230 bill when you get a faulty drive.

Concidering that I have a DVD Player in almost every room now, and the fact that DVD players are dirt cheap these days, final answer, no...

I'm torn. I guess my final answer would be.....meh. I want a game system not a DVD player.

No I got a semi half decient DVD player with built in Dolby Digital decoder built in.
I don't believe the Wii's lens that bad besides which with Boon Blox every single second I keep hearing the drive wirring away & the only time it stops is when I bring up the home menu to turn off the Wii Remote for a few munites.

Who doesn't already have a DVD player? My Wii already makes some horrible teeth gnashing sounds when it reads certain discs, which fortunately as our benevolent dictator points out is not constantly done throughout the game. I wouldn't want to hear that throughout a movie.

Come on, friends,

I'd certainly like it, since it would save space and won't be too much hassle. Plus, the only DVD player I have at the minute is my portable one, which is another reason why I'd like one on my telly. In addition, menu icons would be easier to select with the pointer, as if you were using a mouse on the PC.
