Also, Mario Sunshine wasn't made by Nintendo, and Miyamoto was barley even involved in that game.

What? Who told you that?

Duh. Its common knowledge that it was made by Nontendo.

Oh, okay. Thanks for clearing that up. I guess it must have been that Nintendo logo that shows up as soon as the game starts that just threw me off. And then when it says "Nintendo Presents: Super Mario Sunshine"...I don't know what I was thinking there.

Its an optical illusion. The I is shaped to look like an O unless you buy these special gullible glasses from Nontendo, then its cleared up.

I want a fully orchestrated score like Super Mario Galaxy has but voice acting wouldn't be a really good idea I think. Take Link for example, especially the realistic looking one, he's got zero personality but you can reflect your own imagination on him to fill that gap like Miyamoto says.

Will it need voice acting? Probably not, or at least i'd hope not. I'd certainly hope a Zelda game would be able to keep me captivated via story and interesting dungeons alone, flashy graphics and other frills (minigames, collecting quests, trading sequences, etc.) aside.

That said, i've never really been a fan of voice-acted games to begin with. I've always preferred just coming up with my own voices for the characters in my own head... sometimes one annoying voice can make the game's dialogue a chore to wallow through. If they do have voice-acting in the new Zelda Wii game, I hope they allow us to turn the voice volume down or off in the options menu. :3

Rensch, I don't know why you assume a game with voice acting can't feature a silent protagonist just as well as a text-based game can. It's not like it hasn't been done before, and by Nintendo no less. Basically it would be the same as always: The other characters talk, you don't. So I don't think Link can really be used as an example of why the whole game can't use voice acting to good effect. Heck, there have even been movies with silent protagonists. It's pretty popular in Japanese movies, actually (not that it's the norm, but it's common).

I'm wholeheartedly against Link, Zelda and Ganon having voices, but I wouldn't be so against the random villagers and such having voices. Kinda like Metroid Prime 3; Samus doesn't talk, but everyone else does. And quite frankly, it was freaking great.

The best strategy in the game: go up stairs and pause balls.

Adam

I don't understand why Zelda and Ganon shouldn't. They at least have some basic personality (though Zelda's varies from each individual time continuum, with the Windwaker-based games varying greatly from Ocarina and Twilight). The only reason to keep Link from talking is because he is supposed to be the silent hero whom you imagine as you see fit because you control him. It would be bizarre for all the main characters to just mime at each other while the villagers gab away.

That's amazing! Can't figure out how to embed it, though...

It's HTML unfortunately, so it's a no-go here. I had to take a screengrab and upload it.

Like Nintendo once said, everyone has his own imagination what the characters sound like and if you hear a voice you don't like at all (like the CDI ones) it can ruin your whole game experience.

Ah, remember bowser from super mario sunshine?

That's apparently their stance toward most of the other game's aspects(story, character background, etc). Zelda Wii probably will need about the same amount of voice acting as the other post-N64 Zelda games!

Voices have done wonders for some games, especially the Mario and Star Fox series! I feel the latter hit the mark with Star Fox Assault!

And think about Charles Martinet and how well he does Mario! As I see it, when Super Mario 64 came out, with the spoken words, "It's me, Mario!", the modern era of the Mario series had begun! By the way, Bowser's voice isn't too bad in Super Mario Sunshine, and it marks the first time he had an actual voice with spoken dialog! Although I started to like it more when that voice was used for Bowser's grunts and laughing in subsequent games!

So yeah, voice acting in games can be rather hit or miss. It all really depends...

If there is voice acting, they'll really have to be careful. Bad voice acting can completely ruin a game. Case in point: Battalion Wars 2. I bought it yesterday, and I want to say that it's utterly fantastic and I love it. Because the gameplay is great, the graphics are fantastic, and the controls are tight. But everytime I start enjoying myself, some utter retard pops up on the intercom and starts mercilessly killing the entire damn experience. Particularily the Chinese characters. IF YOU MENTION HONOUR - OR THE ENEMY'S LACK OF IT - ONE MORE TIME I WILL SHOVE THIS BAZOOKA WHERE THE SUN DOES NOT SHINE.

As opposed to the Banjo Kazooie style voices they had in TP, can't say I have a strong preference either way, its still a Zelda game all the same, that's all that matters to me really.

If he talks like he did in the old cartoon he was in, saying "Excuse me" in the most obnoxious voice possible then no way !!

Why would a game released in 2011 mimic an eighties cartoon? No other modern game does that even if they did have a cartoon in the eighties. Mario sounds nothing like he did in his old cartoon.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

Yeah...wait what? Where are these Banjo-Kazooie voices in TP? I'm a B&K fanatic, thought I would've picked up on that...

I mean incoherent mumbling, which always reminded me of the Banjo games for some reason, maybe its just me that thinks that though.
