I haven't tried a rough bottom remote but I think Nintendo might have changed the finish so that the remote has more of a grip, after all the incidents back in 2006 and all.

new remote compared to the old one: http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/01/wii-remote-plus-vs-wii-remote/
spoiler... they're exactly the same in every way aside from the motion+ capability. joystiq says there's no difference in weight or anything else. there are some nice photos where you can see the rough finish on the back, though.

Shucks, I was hoping they might have improved the D-pad or something.

What makes me laugh is amazon.ca is charging $45 for the Wiimote+ vs $50 for FlingSmash, so for $5 more you get a fun-looking game and a bunch of Club Nintendo coins that you wouldn't for just buying the Wiimote+. I'm definitely getting the FlingSmash bundle.

So I just picked this up, and I think they actually improved the D-pad, because I can finally play Bit.Trip Core and Tetris without accidentally triggering diagonals. Anyone else notice an improvement in the D-pad? I suppose it's possible I just got unlucky with my first two Wiimotes that I bought back in May 2008, but neither of those D-pads is 100% reliable, and neither are the D-pads on my classic controllers that I bought around the same time.

not really news, but all the wii sports resort bundles will also be converted to remote plus bundles:

i'm assuming red steel 2 will take the same path. i'm surprised wii party is still bundling with the standard remote considering nintendo is completely phasing it out in just a month.

Hmmm. This has me thinking....

Wouldn't the MSRP rise since you're now getting the entire remote?

So now I'm doubting Red Steel 2 will come with a whole remote but it sure would be sweet if they packaged it with a red Remote or some other exclusive.

Well, they're basically giving away that game for free with the Wii these days, so I'm sure they don't mind using it to sell Wiimotes. Anyone who doesn't already have that game probably wasn't planning on buying it at the full price anyway.

It's still 49.99 in the US. And Nintendo is also bundling NSMB Wii which is also 49.99.

If they price the Wii Sports Resort / Remote Plus Bundle at 49.99 I might consider buying it again and giving the game away. Nintendo sure is good at making people buy the same thing over and over again.

Yeah, this might be the most embarrassing retail game published by Nintendo this year. The only thing that redeems it is they aren't charging much for it. I don't mind paying $5 for it -- was almost worth it just for the Club Nintendo coins -- but it would have been iffy at $10. If I'd lived in the US and could have got that $35 Wii Remote Plus pre-order deal at amazon.com, I would have done that rather than paying $50 for the FlingSmash bundle.

I'll just stick to what I already have.

i got my kuro remote plus last weekend and it does have a slightly rougher finish. compared to my 2009 white remote it's not significant. i love the remote plus; it doesn't do anything a remote with the motion+ before didn't, but it just feels so cool swinging a sword around in-game without seeing the dongle there. the only difference i've noticed functionwise is that the rumble is stronger, but that just may be because it's new.

Did anyone notice a difference in battery life compared to the regular Wii Remote?

i haven't. i couldn't pick up on any significant difference with the stand alone motion plus attached before either, even though i know it's supposed to be there.

If anyone needs another Wii Remote Plus (or two) Best Buy is selling Fling Smash with the remote for $24.99 this week.
