I'm surprised so many people use them I don't use the strap or the jacket. I've never had a problem of losing my grip on the Wiimote, but maybe my hands just don't sweat as much as others'
I did try mine out initially (by the time I bought my Wii (October 2007) they were included as standard) but the wiimote felt too cumbersome. I do use the straps -- just in case -- and they're colour-coded so I know which remotes are mated to the PAL Wii and which to the Japanese Wii .
It will be interesting to see if the next generation wii-remote will be as 'chunky' and have a 'rubberised' feel. I use mine and swear that it helped me defeat the giant scorpion on Umbrella Chronicles
I never used them before, but sadly I've decided that it's almost necessary with Motion Plus installed. If you connect the Motion+ without a jacket, the weird tabs, switch, feet, and indentations on that thing, which was clearly intended to be used inside the jacket, make your remote look ridiculous and disjointed. So, for the one Wii remote that will keep the M+ attached the majority of the time, I'm keeping on the new jacket. Since the only M+ game I own right now is Tiger Woods 10, the grip is actually useful anyway, and makes the whole thing feel much more like the grip on a club.
I still keep the jackets off of my MotionPlus-less remotes, though.

I bought my Wii and extra remote before these things came out, so I don't even have them. Also, I took the wrist straps off because I don't like how they look/feel.

Yeah I use mine all the time cause my wii-motes are always getting dropped or knocked off the table(i've a 2 year old daughter!!) I do like the feel of them now as well ,although changing batteries is a pain. I have the wriststraps on there too but don't always use them and end up whipping myself with them (not in a kinky way!! LOL) nearly lost an eye once while playing wii sports!!
