Topic: Wii U forcing me to buy a pro controller

I am not sure if this is the right place to post, but there has been an issue. Not all too long ago I moved most of my Wii data to my Wii U. I had moved mostly saves, miis and kept some things. However I made the mistake of moving my Zelda: Ocarina of Time game that I had bought a long time ago from the eShop on the Wii. This is a problem because I cannot use my gamecube controllers on the Wii U, and I cannot move the game back to the normal Wii. I tried to see if I could redownload the game from the Wii eShop but nope, I would have to buy it again. I tried moving the Zelda game back to the Wii with an SD card but nope, it claims I cannot use the software with the console.

So it seems like in order to play the game I would have to buy a pro controller or the upcoming gamecube controller accessory for the Wii U. But I do not wish to have to pay money for something I already bought, is there any way I could get the game back on the normal Wii?

Pro controller won't work because it's not compatible in Wii Mode. You need to either 1) buy a Classic Controller or Classic Controller Pro or 2) Wait for the game to release on the eShop and move the game from Wii Mode to the Wii U and play using the Gamepad.

Or you can buy it again on your Wii.

I'll probably just wait for the gamecube accessory instead, considering I'll need it for Smash Bros. in the future

We don't know for certain if the GameCube controller adapter will even work in Wii Mode. It would be awesome if it could, but we can't say for sure.

I thought buying a Classic Controller was almost mandatory for VC games. I remember that, if Super Metroid did not have the option to reassign buttons, it would have been unplayable with a GC controller. Overall for most SNES games, the classic is a lot more natural.

In any case, I agree with @brewsky. The classic controller can be used for a lot of Wii U games, not only VC games, so you can see it as an investment. And they are much cheaper than a Pro Controller.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

Hopefully it'll work in Wii Mode, otherwise the adapter will be a bit more useless because it'd only be a good option for certain multiplayer Wii U games and the gamepad is always available when playing the Wii U eShop Virtual Console games unless you want a more firm controller to play with.

Once you transfer your stuff from the Wii to the Wii U there is no way to transfer it back. The only thing that you can do is buy it again on your Wii.

The Wii U Pro controller wont work in Wii mode and no one knows if the GC adapter will work in Wii mode either. As other's said your best bet is buying a Classic Control pro which you can find pretty cheap used at places like Gamestop. Heck I found the GoldenEye bundle for new which comes with the CCP for $10 at my local Kmart a few months ago. I bought the pack and just traded in the game since I had a copy of it already and kept the controller.

(NB: My experience with the old model is the opposite of what @electrolite77 said on the controller)

Alas, the one I got from Amazon.co.uk is the older model (GC2-WIU12 or something like that, 12 anyway and not 14) - the packaging was identical to the one shown in the Amazon.co.uk link, the sticker included. The D-pad feels really bad and the triggers are similar to XBox360 controller's even though they are digital, but I can play Wii games such as Sonic Colours and Xenoblade Chronicles on my Wii U without having a Wiimote dangling from the controller.

To my understanding, this controller works only like a Wii Classic Controller, though, not a Wii U Pro Controller. I'm pretty sure the part of it working with CoD Black Ops 2 on Wii U is due to the game supporting Wii Classic Controller as well. I haven't tested it with games that support only gamepad and the Wii U Pro Controller.

And do check other reviews on it if you think this might suit your needs.

Yeah it seems to be a bit hit and miss. The second model which has a switch to change between Wii Classic and Wii U Pro is great but it's difficult to know which one you're going to get if you're buying online
