Maybe they could have it where you can download GCN games you own already onto the new system, I dunno...or just simply make the system able to play GCN. >.>
yes I wanna play all my GCN games on the next console without DL them again
Digitaloggery 3DS FC: Otaku1 WiiU: 013017970991 Nintendo of Japan niconico community is full of kawaii! Must finish my backlagg or at least get close this year W...
Considering that I meant to play GC games when I got my Wii but never did buy any GC games, I'm fine if the next Nintendo console lacks GC compatability.

That's a shame. You don't know what you're missing. You should at least consider tracking down a copy of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door if you're into RPG's. One of the most amazing games I've ever played. Not to mention the excellent, if not a bit odd, Super Mario Sunshine.

I totally agree. I played that game before I played the original N64 Paper Mario game. And yeah I did like Super Mario Sunshine....good game.
I'm going to say this again because this has been my position on what the Wii sequel should have for a long time. Dump optical disks. Do any games need more than 2~8GB? No? Well why not go back to cartridges/flash? It loads quicker, it's silent and it's durable and it's biggest downfalls (cost and capacity) don't mean nearly as much as they used to.
Huh? dump a 10 cent piece of plastic in favor of a cartridge that could cost $20+ to produce? I think that is a really bad idea...
$20+? I don't know which alternate reality you live in but in the world I live in the 3DS and DS exist. The 3DS in particular allows 2GB+ games and I would assume sells them at a decent profit. This is the same world where 4GB Micro SD cards sell for $12AU at retail and still make a profit.
Admittedly this is the same world where people seem to think disk capacity has a major impact on game quality. This is despite the fact that the PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360 and Wii all used the same capacity disks and the 3DS has the potential to do the same with it's cartridges. As I said, read speed, durability and zero noise are the benefits you get for an increased cost which is much, much less than it was in the N64 era and a capacity which is very workable.

"Don't stir the pot" is a nice way of saying "they're too dumb to reason with"
here's the next round of info about the controller (maybe this'll stop you from arguing for second): its supposed to be gamecube-esque and have a 6 inch touchscreen that can apparently have data streamed to it from the console, so you could play your games on the controller itself as a handheld away from your tv (if i'm interpreting the source right).
sounds like they're integrating the best parts of their handhelds and home consoles together.
The "Gamecube-esque" part in the article meant the controller is suppose to be as functional as a Gamecube controller. Not will resemble a Gamecube controller. I read that it's suppose to feature dual analog sticks along with the screen too. Just read on WiiHD rumor blog(same old David that made 3DSblog) that the new console may be powered by AMD Trinity.
It looks like someone took a 3DS screen, added a slider and attached a Classic controller pro.
Wow really? I didn't notice.
I'm willing to bet that it's controller will be wireless and will use full analogue sticks rather than 3DS style circle pads. Also, if you are going to 'shop, a 6" screen would be a lot bigger than that.
hey guys the internets told me it will make cheeseburgers (in paradise!) so it must be true. The internets have never lied before! tries to unlock Toad in Melee
What I'm assuming will happen is motion controls will still be there but they will take a backseat and be more optional. If it's gonna be backwards compatible with the Wii, then it will still have to have motion controls.
Another reason why i loathe ign... How is this a step forward? Sticking a screen on a controller with the inferior '2 analog sticks' This idea seems decent for the people who are obese, lazy and out of their mind that prefer dual analog to wii pointer controls.
Metroid Prime 3, Resident Evil 4:Wii Edition, Sin & Punishment, Elebits, Pikmin NPC(ECT ECT) say HI
Yea, I understand some people like dual analog controls...but if developers are finally getting something right on the Wii, it's FPS controls. IF Nintendo were to abandon that, that's a reason I WOULDN'T be interested in the system, and just stick with my PS3 until a nice price drop on the thing...
[rant] Am I the only person who thinks IGN is milking this to get more site views?
I mean, didn't they loathe the Wii before? Now they're all over the successor as if they're destined to be the first guys who "confirmed" what it'll have.
Prententious much?
[/rant]
Of course, sticking to my guns here, no believing until E3.
@Sylverstone: You are about 100% correct. IGN knows that we (fanboys) are going to post the crap out of their "news". I still believe it's going to be shown off at E3 though. It won't be out until next Winter season, which is a year too late in my opinion. Nintendo will milk the price drop of the Wii this year and maybe drop it again for the holidays.
OK, so if the controller does have a screen, what does that do for the games?
Each player would have their own screen in multiplayer, which is good. But FPS games on a touch screen are awful IMO, so they will be more difficult to play.
In-game items could pass between screens, which could be interesting in a Bomberman game. Imagine having the main map on the TV and the ability to choose players to throw a bomb to. The bomb would fly int oth eoverhead camera and on to your screen.
Can't think of much more than that. Unless it would be used for secondary info like the DS does with its two screens.
