Hmm. If it's backwards compatible with the Wii, then it must have some sort of pointer controls. I wonder what's the supposed camera in the controller for? Maybe for motion sensing of some kind.

i'm assuming they let you use your current remotes, just like the wii accepted gamecube controllers. that'd save a lot of frustration for people who bought all of the wii peripherals.

Nintendo Wii 2, the #1 trending topic according to yahoo.

This is no rumor...but I thought i'd share
Lol

Also dual analog sticks, and alot of people are saying cafe=social, which certainly makes sense...that would be interesting. We could have amazing online functionality on our hands for sure.

The people who want this should be ashamed of themselves.

the fact that it's HD doesn't tell you anything about what the system is. unlike sony and microsoft nintendo will work to make HD one of the least interesting aspects of their system. besides, with the 360 at $200 it's clear that HD isn't that hard to pull off in a console these days, what's the problem with taking advantage of it? would you be more excited if the news was "nintendo to continue in 480p, power of four gamecubes taped together?"

thanks for missing the point.

Now, the ONLY way this wouldn't suck, let me repeat THE. ONLY. WAY. this wouldn't suck is if it's HD Wii where you can sell in your normal Wii to get it much cheaper. That would be fine. But if it isn't and Nintendo fans support this, I will be even more ashamed to be a gaming fan than when I saw the commercial failure of Little King's Story.

....First I hear it'll be more powerful than the PS3, then I hear about Blu-Ray, and now...Cafe...like one of the comments on IGN said, this keeps sounding more like a belated April Fool's joke, lol.

in all fairness i have no idea what you're talking about. you're saying it sucks because you can't do a trade in? or what?

I mean considering the recent blatant extension of life for PS3/360 with Move/Kinect (and a similar idea for Wii is Motionplus) recently, the horribly long amount of time before a new system has more than a few worthwhile games and the fact that it would cost 300+ dollars unless you could trade your console in confirms this is in no way a good idea unless you hate good gaming or are part of the lowest common denominator.

If it's still not compatible with Gamecube games, then I can only guess it will have Gamecube games on the VC. That means they will either have to still include the Gamecube controller ports or re-release a Wavebird like controller. They wouldn't need to include Gamecube memory card slots though, as they could let you make internal Gamecube memory cards with the hard drive, similar to how the PS3 does it for PS1 games.

I gotta admit, I'm not sure what you are talking about either. Trading it in through Nintendo? I never trade my consoles in, does that mean I hate good games?

EDIT: Are you just complaining about the price?

I can afford $300 (having held off on the 3DS), and since my Wii is old (and secondhand), I'd be happy to upgrade to the new system - providing it still took Wii (and perhaps) Gamecube games.

Wii Motion+ han't really been embraced as far as I know, but then I haven't been buying Wii games recently. I doubt it could keep the Wii going for another 5 years.

And regarding Sony and Microsoft, I think they could probably release a successor to their respective consoles and still utilise the Move and kinect peripherals. They just did that to get on the motion-control bandwagon.

That's gonna suck...I'm not wanting to get rid of Paper Mario: TTYD or the Wind Waker...it better allow you to play GCN games...>_>

I'm going to say this again because this has been my position on what the Wii sequel should have for a long time. Dump optical disks. Do any games need more than 2~8GB? No? Well why not go back to cartridges/flash? It loads quicker, it's silent and it's durable and it's biggest downfalls (cost and capacity) don't mean nearly as much as they used to.

Backwards compatibility? Sure, put a DVD drive in for that but I don't want another DVD player, I don't want another Blu-Ray player, I have these things already and if I don't I can get them cheaply so please, please dump optical disks..... eventually.

How about this. Make everything downloadable. Much better than using cartridges. You have much more freedom and room to do what you want than if you disc's or cartridges.

No.

What if you don't have Internet access at home?

Simple solution: don't get rid of your Wii.

I don't play the games often, though...all the Wii would do is collect dust for quite some time until I want to play those games again, which is rare. Maybe they could have it where you can download GCN games you own already onto the new system, I dunno...or just simply make the system able to play GCN. >.>

You know, if the Wii successor makes waffles, then Sony and Microsoft should just give up.

NOTHING COULD TOP WAFFLE MAKING.

Nintendo is going to have to do better than that. The PS3 already doubles as a grill whenever it overheats.
