To everyone saying it's too early for a new console, we wouldn't even see it until late next year, so it's still a little over a year away. And considering the PS3 hardware is going on 5 years old, there is no reason for the next Nintendo console to not be at least as powerful as the PS3, but I'm betting it will be slightly more powerful. As for myself, I am definately looking to see it announced and to learn some details about it.
We just got the 3DS and already you guys are wanting more?
I've had over five years with my DS and, excluding Pokemon, I haven't been excited about much on it for good year now. The 3DS has definitely made me excited about Nintendo Portable consoles again.... and not just for the 3D
I've had over four years with my Wii and, excluding Skyward Sword, I don't see much to be excited about for the next year. The Wii successor will definitely get me excited about Nintendo Home consoles again.... and not just for the HD
i'll pay whatever they want from me. i know i'm in the minority but i'm hoping for it to be as fancy and expensive as the market allows. i'd like nintendo to blow away the competition with quality this time. i really like the idea of an HD screen on the remote for the same reason i wanted to use my 3DS with the next home console, because I want everyone to have their own screen for boardgames or co-op RPGs. I'm very excited to hear some teasers.

@kkslider and @brooks83: If they weren't selling enough PS2s for whatever reason they wouldn't keep on selling them. Same will happen with the Wii. People shouldn't worry about their precious Wii's being outdated. Just buy a Super Wii when able. There's will probably be a year or so after the Super Wii comes out that they are still releasing games for the regular Wii that is somewhat playable.
When this is announced, let's all make sure to keep it down in the audience so we can make this thing cheaper! .....you remember what happened last time? cough 3DS cough
Currently playing: 3DS: KI: Uprising Wii: Xenoblade Chronicles "Heh, heh... Thanks... You're nice. Umm... Can I ask... a question? Your friends... What kind of... people are they? I wonder... Do these people... think of you...as a friend?"
i just hope it allows internet by wired connection and it be cool if it could send a wireless signal from the wii2 to the 3DS ish or something but i want the the internet wired instead of needing wireless it should save the hassle for some
The people who want this should be ashamed of themselves.
the fact that it's HD doesn't tell you anything about what the system is. unlike sony and microsoft nintendo will work to make HD one of the least interesting aspects of their system. besides, with the 360 at $200 it's clear that HD isn't that hard to pull off in a console these days, what's the problem with taking advantage of it? would you be more excited if the news was "nintendo to continue in 480p, power of four gamecubes taped together?"
@Waveboy, well you have to look at it this way. If you pay attention to the Nintendo editors, they are pretty darn happy and excited and they all have their expectations.
The other editors? Well they arent Nintendo people. They are gonna compare the next-gen to their console and be sarcastic about it because well, they are going to be loyal to their area. That's how I like to look at it anyway. And as for Jack, I certainly understand his concern for online play.
@Link79: Yes...I mean this is a home console. And it actually has a different audience than the handheld gamers. Sure most of us are die hard Nintendo fans and have BOTH. But we have been waiting for a successor and we're excited to move along in the next direction with the new console once it comes. Sure if this was all just a sick joke, oh well. I'd be perfectly happy with my Wii for another couple years. But since the speculation is sky-high we can't help but be happy any excited about what comes next. Bring it on!
I'm going to say this again because this has been my position on what the Wii sequel should have for a long time. Dump optical disks. Do any games need more than 2~8GB? No? Well why not go back to cartridges/flash? It loads quicker, it's silent and it's durable and it's biggest downfalls (cost and capacity) don't mean nearly as much as they used to.
Backwards compatibility? Sure, put a DVD drive in for that but I don't want another DVD player, I don't want another Blu-Ray player, I have these things already and if I don't I can get them cheaply so please, please dump optical disks..... eventually.

"Don't stir the pot" is a nice way of saying "they're too dumb to reason with"

Huh? dump a 10 cent piece of plastic in favor of a cartridge that could cost $20+ to produce? I think that is a really bad idea...
I'm skeptical that it'll be more powerful than the 360 and PS3, but you never know.
I'm seeing a lot of this over the internet - why are people so sceptical about Nintendo producing a powerful games console? The Wii is the first time Nintendo have ever been in last place in terms of hardware. The NES was way more powerful than the Atari machines of the time, the SNES more powerful than the Megadrive, The N64 way more powerful than the PlayStation and the Saturn, The GameCube more powerful than the PS2 and Dreamcast etc. Honestly, if anything I think it's more likely that Nintendo will produce the more powerful machine next generation and Sony and Microsoft will try harder to grab a hold of the more profitable casual gaming market - makes more sense from a business point of view for all three companies.
Can't help remembering Nintendo (probably Shigsy,) saying the next Zelda would be nothing like we would expect to see, or words to that effect. I wonder if they meant it would be in HD.
