Honestly taking these things apart isn't a big deal; if your Wii is already out of warranty, then they're not going to care. Just ensure you're using a static free surface (table; not carpet) and don't wear a fuzzy sweater or rub a balloon on yourself.

You'll need a triwing (should be easy to cop on Ebay, but back in the NES days they were harder to come by; probably why Nintendo went with them) and a pack of small +/philips-head screwdrivers.

Two basic pieces of advice when working with things like this: don't force things - if it's not going together nicely odds are you're doing something wrong, so take a look lest you break something. Ensure you note the order in which you're doing things and try to keep the fasteners with the parts they belong to so you can reverse it. I've had my Wii apart before and though it's a nice piece of engineering it's not as challenging to take apart and reassemble as my Titanium Powerbook was, though it's slightly more fiddly than a Gamecube and I definitely wouldn't want to solder anything on it!

I've told this story about three times on NL so here's the shortened version... noisy Wii became unbearable, small piece of metal needs bending, I fixed it, now it's like new.

I used the following video, a Tri-Wing and some common sense to fix it. Fixed a friends too, it's a piece of cake.

It's so weird, no youtube videos helped me with the buzzing. That didn't work, and loosening the screws made it louder. I tweaked and tweaked until it more or less was quiet, but still I'm afraid it will return and I might try to find a brand new DVD drive.

I had the same problem a while back...not sure if its the same sound or not...but mine did made a loud buzzing noise. (it wasn't that loud) Bt for some stupid reason I thought that was how the Wii was supposed to sound so I just left it alone, later the disc drive just went out completely and stopped working. Not sure how it can be fixed, but I say to go ahead and give it to Nintendo to repair it.
