Topic: Wii Points Sales Tax

I live in Connecticut and when I buy Wii Points with my credit card, 1% tax is added. So 1000 points cost $10.10. I am curious to know what the tax is in different states across the US and if there are any states that do not tax you for your Wii Points. Please say where you're from and how much it costs to buy points on your Wii with a credit card. If there are any states that don't tax you, I wonder if changing your state in your Wii options menu could save you a little money.

EDIT: To clarify, I'm only talking about buying points directly from the Wii Shop Channel with a credit card. I am taxed 1% that way even though my state sales tax is 6%.

It is your states sales tax....

IGN: The holiday Wii lineup looks thin for the hardcore crowd. We see this. Gamers see this. What, if anything, is Nintendo planning to address it?

Oh good, I am neither a gamer or hardcore. Saves me from having to be IGNorant.

I'm in Nassau County, New York (the fourth highest taxed county in the USA), so i get hit with the approx 8% tax. BTW, I'm pretty sure changing your state in the Wii options (if it would affect this calculation) would essentially be tantamaount to tax fraud. Tremendously minor, but fraud nonetheless.

No, CT sales tax is 6%. That's why I want to find out from people on here in case it's different than their states' tax.

I live in Texas and when I buy my Wii points it costs me $19.99 plus $1.62(state tax is 8.125%) for a total of $21.61.

Maybe your state has a different rate for digital purchases. Call your congressman, in these revenue and tax hungry times, they are taxing everything, they must close all loop holes.

It's sales tax. Lieing to a sever would amount to tax evasion. If you wish to be a citizen of your state or country, you are legaly bound to pay your taxes or face penalty or imprisonment.

At my local target I don't have to pay any tax. $19.99 on the dot for a points card.

Florida = no tax on direct purchase of Wii Points. Our state sales tax is 6% though.

Wonder why we get a free ride on the points?

Because your state legislature has not passed a law to tax it - yet....

Florida gets a free ride on a lot of things thanks to tourism.

anyway, NC hasn't been charging me any kind of sales tax either for online sales (unless i'm buying from a seller in NC).

No online sales tax here in Maryland yet. I do get taxed buying the cards, though. But I DON'T get taxed buying PSN cards, presumably because they're listed in actual dollar amounts and could therefore be counted as "gift cards." Weird, I know.

My Backloggery Updated sporadically. Got my important online ID's on there, anyway. :P

I used to pay double the tax whenever I bought those PSN cards. I would buy the card at the store and get charged tax for it and then when I used the points on the Playstation Store I would get taxed again on whatever purchase I made. This left me with less points for my dollar; it was outrageous! Thankfully, Sony finally fixed this problem and I no longer have to pay tax on the points cards at retail. I'm sure the situation is different in other states but that is just an example of what happened to me down here in Texas.
