There is a very intresting glitch that has a very odd effect in New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
To perform the glitch: [youtube:3AKKGINogTI&]
If you let the coins flow everywhere, this happens:
I don't understand. The Wii can handle emulating N64 games, but it cannot handle this? Perhaps the Wii is not as advanced as we thought? Perhaps Miyamoto was not lying when he claimed the Wii cannot handle online multiplayer for NSMBW? Or NSMBW has a very pitiful engine.
That glitch is interesting. And hilarious. But I wouldn't say the Wii has a pitiful engine because it can't handle infinitely spawning objects that it was never expected to process in the first place. The Xbox 360 and PS3 are easily enough overloaded into lagging conditions by infinite spawning as well (in games whose glitches allow it, such as Fallout 3)...it doesn't reflect any more poorly on the Wii than it does any electronic device pushed beyond its designers' expectations.
What do you mean? I meant this glitch in NSMBW. I do know the minus world from SMB original.
that's not what you said before...

This is the only glitch we have ever found in a Super Mario Bros. game.

True, I just thought it was shocking to see that much lag on a game that is not pushing the Wii's limits. Although, I did not know the coins were 3D models [I failed to notice], so that might explain the extreme lag.
It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!
I'm pretty sure those coins are 3D objects, and if so it's totally understandable that the Wii can't render hundreds of them at once.
The developers would be pretty stupid if these coins were 3D objects. You know how many polygons you need for a nice round coin? I am 95 % sure these coins are pre-rendered. It doesn't even take that many coins for the game to slow down. Just think about it, about 50 coins are spawned per second and the Wii has to calculate the hit detection and physic for every single coin. It's absolutely no wonder to me that the game slowed down.

Faildude is right. Consider that you get a life with 100 coins and they were receiving a new life about once every 2 seconds. The second vid would have had tens of thousands of coins on screen, not just hundreds. That is most certainly pushing the Wii's limits - not to mention it would push the limits of the X360 and the PS3, if not at tens of thousands then eventually. It's nothing to do with the Wii having poor hardware.
Also rendering a coin (3D or 2D) is pretty trivial - the slowdown would occur mainly because of physics and game logic processing for each individual coin, multiplied by the sheer amount of them.
