Now the Wii is coming to the end of its cycle, it's got me thinking about the games that showed promise, but left me disappointed...

TMNT Smash Up
Considering it was a rival to Smash Bros, the limited character roster was a massive error. And to then put rabbids in showed a complete lack of respect for the IP and the fans...turned me off completely.

Dirt 2
I really tried to like it, but I was kidding myself...there were a few moments when it worked...but by large, it was a broken mess of a game

Which games left you deflated?

Super Paper Mario: too much text and I didn't feel the platforming worked very well though I think the fetch quests between levels to open the doorss to the next stage was the most annoying part of it for me.

Final Fantasy Crystal Bearers: FF8 used to be my least favourite FF game until I played this mess, map that was so bad its actually quite impressive in a way that they could make it as bad as it was, the combat I really didn't like and turned out wasn't all that necessary ended up running away from them all the time yet still had no real trouble on any the bosses, also the mini party type games that made up most of the gameplay really sucked imo.

Super Monkeyball Banana Blitz: once classic series reduced to shovelware :(

Skyward Sword - I hated every moment of this game. The storyline, the characters, the controls, you name it, it's bad. It never quite felt like a Zelda game to me and the fun factor was totally out the window. Bowling bombs was a bigger struggle than... well anything in Red Steel 1. The controls made the average game bad.

Metroid Other M - You know why.

Animal Crossing City Folk - As a diehard Animal Crossing fan, City Folk was a huge disappointment. Porting Wild World with updated graphics and minimal new content was the worst idea ever. I waited years for a new console Animal Crossing and we got a Wild World update. Oh and avoid the fact that I still played it for 200+ hours.

Dead Space Extraction - As fun as this game was, it not only broke my Wii but it wasn't worth waiting to play. A rail shooter Dead Space themed? No thanks, I'd rather play a Wii port of Dead Space or even a prequel to DS1 that plays like the HD releases.

Starwars the Force Unleashed II: Ugh where do I start. First of the first one really made use of the Wii's motion controls which is why I opted for the Wii version rather than the Xbox one. For the first one you swung the Wii remote like a light saber and than you would move the Nunchuk for force abilities. Like for a force choke you would hold down the C button and and twist your wrist with the nunchuk like Darth Vader did in the movies. The second one however didnt have that instead of swinging the Wiimote to attack with the lightsaber you just hit the A button no movement required. To me it was no better than playing the Xbox version. Than on top of no motion controls the game just felt shorter and alot easier than the first one and the story was blah compared to it. It almost seemed that the second one was just slapped together and put out to capitalize on the popularity of the first game which I wouldnt be surprised if it was. Yeah complete garbage IMO compared to the first game.

Epic Mickey: Warren Spector was lying about pretty much everything he said about this game. Here's hoping the sequel is better, though.

Metroid: Other M: It was actually quite a good game, but not the Super Metroid successor I was hoping for. Also, the story was laughable.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land: It was actually quite a good game, but not the Dream Land successor I was hoping for. Also, the story was laughable.

because, we all know how much the Kirby games used to have such epic stories! I still cry thinking about the tragedy in Gourmet Race. (if you wanted to play a cute 2d platformer with a good story, you should play Klonoa btw) I finally beat it yesterday and yeah it isn't quite on the level it needed to be, and while I haven't played multiplayer, it really seems none of the levels were actually made for multiplayer at all.

Metroid Other M. Yeah...yeah. Obvious choice.
Samba De Amigo: I refuse to believe Sega will ever get motion controls SOLELY because of this game. I was such a huge Samba De Amigo fan growing up, like the only rhythm game I really got into outside of Guitar Hero and Rhythm Heaven and they make a port where the controls are BROKEN. That's pathetic.
Nights: Why?
Brawl: Once again, impossible amount of hype made it impossible for this game to fully live up to the hype.
NSMBWii's single player: Once again, make a lazy game, make more money than any of us will ever see in our lifetimes. Multiplayer is awesome though, I can't deny that for a second.
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz: I miss when this series was really, really good instead of slightly above average.

The only Wii game to surpass my expectations was Super Mario Galaxy, and it's sequel.

Everything else I played had at least one glaring flaw and disappointed me in one way or another.

You do know that Jungle Beat is a Gamecube port, right?

My opinion on this game is exactly the opposite. To me, it plays like a single-player game with a broken and frustrating multiplayer.

Its because Candy, Funkey, and Dixie were created by both Rare and Nintendo and we all know what happened to Rare.

@kk I don't need Kirby stories to be epic, but I'd prefer it if they weren't insulting. The plot twist(s) in that game were highly indulgent.

Just like every other Kirby game. It's a game for kids, man. Lighten up...

Kirby's Epic Yarn - The last game I played that was this outright boring was Kirby 64. Surprise surprise...

Donkey Konk Country Returns - Just because it's a brand new Donkey Kong Country game doesn't mean it needs to have the same awful movement that the previous games had. Not even nostalgia could keep me sane for even a few minutes.

Super Mario Galaxy - It's too linear for a 3D Mario game, IMO. It couldn't hold my attention for more than a single stage at a time, unlike Super Mario 64 or Sunshine, which I couldn't put down. The lame hub world doesn't help, either.

I'll post more later.

...Animal Crossing: City Folk. Just didn't feel right.
Wii Party was AWFUL even for a Party Game.
Couldn't enjoy Epic Mickey too much.
Sonic Colors Underwhelmed...I wanted another GOOD Sonic Adventure. The Gameplay was fine.. But I though Unleashed's Day Stages were better in a lot of cases.
Wii Sports-- BECAUSE WII SPORTS.

...And that's it, methinks.
I was actually fine with Other M.
I ACTUALLY LIKE OTHER M.
I thought Kirby's Epic Yarn and Return to Dreamland were fine as well, EXCEPT IN RTD YOU MOVED SOOOOOOO SLOW!
But it's okay. I forgive it.

That didn't prevent members of the Kong family from appearing in DK: King of Swing, Donkey Konga, Mario Kart Wii, Donkey Kong Barrel Blast, the Game Boy Advance and Virtual Console re-releases, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and several other titles. Donkey Kong Country Returns, the game in question here, has Cranky Kong (who first appeared in the Country series) but not the others.

Or are you implying that Nintendo has the complete rights for certain Kongs and not others? Even then, Barrel Blast was also on the Wii and featured characters like Dixie, Funky, and Tiny.

From what I understand, firearrow505's criticisms appear to be valid. Am I missing something?
