Topic: Wii Demos and Third Party Success

So, we've had some back and forth about the lack of third party success on the Wii, which got me thinking. Is there any reason why full-fledged Wii games don't have demos available? They exist for Wiiware titles now and they've helped boost sales, so why not retail games? A number of criminally overlooked titles might have done much better had Nintendo had demos that they promote like Sony and Microsoft.

Thoughts?

I'm not sure if this is a duplicate topic, but if so feel free to lock the thread.

This would be an fantastic idea. Maybe then those companies will stop blaiming Nintendo completely for their mistakes.

However, we should have to pay for them, but only up to 1,000 Wii Points and we can keep them until we get the full game. Games can be at these points: 200, 500, 800, and 1,000 Wii Points with licensed games costing 100 points more. They depend on the size of the demo and full game. They also have a time limit to play a session, then you go back to the Wii menu. Like I said, time limits set help determind how much time you can put on a game before you leave the demo. At the end of a demo, it'll encourage you to download the game if you like it.

I think the subject was mentioned in the Turkey's Demo thread. I think this is a great idea, some games just aren't getting the love they deserve

Nobody would buy demos you had to pay for but overall I think its a good idea. However, unlike WiiWare demos (which wouldn't require much time/money to turn into demos), full retail demos most probably can't be played on the Wii without significant modification. There is no way the current legit Wii can handle GB size demos. So maybe not until the Wii's successor.

Yeah I agree with Skywake. It would be really hard if not impossible to compress the files to fit on the Wii and leave room for all the games and other demos.

software companies on the internet have been using the concept of 'shareware' to offer free demos forever now. Sony/game publishers used to give out free demo discs for playstation games in magazines, packed in with other games, and sometimes even at the register if you bought or reserved a different game, and PSN even now still does free demos. Xbox Live does free demos. With the DS being able to do download play for demos since it hit the streets, it's already set the precedent for Nintendo giving out free demos and encouraging demo play with your friends if you've purchased a cartridge.

To put it bluntly, there is no way in hell people will pay for game demos, and Nintendo would be shooting themselves in the foot if they were to try and charge for them. It's a demonstration of what the game can do, and the idea is to entice us into purchasing the game(s) for ourselves. Why should we pay for that?
I only wish Ninty'd'a released demos of different games i hadn't already bought, lol

Back in 2003 Nintendo started to release demo discs for the Gamecube at a cost of $10 and they included a handfull of decent demos on and they even released a demo disc with the Mario Kart gamecube special edition if you can get hold of it anywhere.
But I think that although people wouldnt mind forking over $10 for a decent magazine that came with a demo disc they would feel that they were only paying for the mag and getting the demos free rather than paying $10 for demos of Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg, Viewtiful Joe, Sonic Adventure DX, Splinter Cell, and Soul Calibur II as well as a load of videos of all their other titles.

Had the demo discs sold well (?!?) them im sure Nintendo would have started doing them more regularly, however since Wiiware demos have been seen as being somewhat successfull then im sure that it maybe something they would consider again in the future. Who knows what Nintendo thinks anymore. lol
