Topic: Why is Skyward Sword the new black sheep of the Zelda franchise?

I thought the good outweighed the bad; the controls were fantastic and the overworld areas were very strongly put together. I also thought the new item upgrading system added a lot.

The game played out in a very linear fashion, but that has been going on in Zelda games for years. More annoying to me was the separation between the sky and the ground; it wouldn't have mattered if the sky was fairly empty if you could land and take off almost anywhere.

I will miss the motion controls so much, though.

I hated Skyward Sword's...everything, but I'm not about to pretend like it's a black sheep or anything. It had all the elements that previous entries had, it just did them all really badly. That's not a black sheep, that's just a misstep. A black sheep is a game that is fundamentally different. Mega Man Legends is the black sheep of Mega Man. Other M is the black sheep of Metroid. Zelda II is still the black sheep of Zelda, because it changed the basic gameplay drastically, in a way that no other entry has ever done (and hopefully won't ever do again).

I liked Twilight Princess (But I got the Gamecube version).

Wind Waker was the only zelda experience that i found boring.....The snail slow sailing was sleep inducing, lack of dungeons, annoying soundtrack and lack of difficulty really through me off.

Lack of dungeons? Every island was like a dungeon. It had some of the best the series had to offer. As for the sailing, I found it both relaxing and fun. At least there was stuff to do while sailing unlike Skyward Sword which felt barren. Also the music was the best overworld music the series had to offer. I also like that there was plenty of stuff to do in town unlike most Zelda's where there is really not much to do at all. The graphics also hold up well in any decade. WW was the best for me. I guess you just wouldn't know a good game if it hit you square in the face! Kidding in that last part. Our gaming tastes are polar opposites!

As for on topic I really like Skyward Sword. The story was the best of the series as we're the characters. I also didn't have a big problem with Fi. I learn to except her and ignore her at the same time.

My only main grip like I said above and was said by at least one here was the flying. It was so limited and under used because there wasn't this big vast world to fly in. All you did was fly from point a to b then jump off to a linear world below. Everything else felt just right to me. A nice city to explore, good graphics not great, and nice interaction with other characters. I liked the gathering of materials for certain upgrades but it needs to be fleshed out a bit more. Its not my favorite of the 3d Zeldas but it holds its own. Actually it's my least favorite of the 3d Zeldas but I can say I love them all for different reasons!

The music was great, the graphics were good-looking, the story was decent, the characters had pretty awesome personalities (Ghirahim, Groose, etc.) and the controls worked pretty well save for every time I had to correct them. Atlhough the game was very much linear and easy to beat.

Whenever I talk to people who play Wii or Zelda games, I ask them if they've played Skyward Sword and most times they say no. Which is strange.

Those same people also say that Wind Waker rocks. I highly disagree with that sentiment. Wind Waker was probably one of the most boring games I have played in the series.

I find it not so surprising about people not having played Skyward Sword. A few reasons are that you have to own a Wii Remote Plus (or Wii Remote with Wii MotionPlus) otherwise you can't play at all, E3 2010 showed rather bad control issues and the Wii was nearing the end of its lifespan when Skyward Sword came out.

I thought Wind Waker was ruined by the lack of dungeons and overall average quality of the ones that are offered, with obvious puzzles, short length and a really underdeveloped layout...

A shame really, because the control issues were due to large amounts of wireless interference that couldn't be helped.

Pretty much everything wrong with Twilight Princess either wasn't fixed in Skyward Sword or made even worse.

I disagree, because its only problems were trying too hard to be dark and trying too hard to be OOT. And Skyward Sword was neither.

There's a lot of content in Twilight Princess that is different than that of OoT. Just because it actually tried to expand on what that game did right does not make it too similar. The story tried too hard to be dark, but it's not like Zelda games have never tried too hard to be goofy, either. As for what it did wrong, TP had a slow opening and several moments early in the game that padded the length out, both of which are present in SS.

I like the Gamecube version of Twilight Princess (The same cannot be said about Windwaker).

I liked SS for the most part and I didn't even any trouble with the motion control, I found them working as they should, however, I hated the dowsing parts, however, those light drops parts were amazing! I loved those

This has happened with nearly every 3D Zelda. It is nothing new.

I mean, I could point out the actual valid reasons to not like the game but it doesn't matter because much of the people are hating it because it's the new 3D Zelda. That is it.

Nobody hated on MM or OoT this much.

I was referring to the cult following that is regarded as the hipsters of the Zelda franchise with MM.

Are you kidding me? I know people who still hate on Majora's Mask.

And MM is my favorite Zelda

What control problems did people have with the game. I only did one playthru, but I don't recall have any problems with it.

I never had an issue with SS as far as controls actually its a relatively good game, the issue is its a terrible ZELDA game. its insanely linear everything is explained the world you travel consist of 4 small areas and (HERE IT COMES!) the AWFUL STORY!

It was a decent game. But outside of the old 2D Zelda's, I'm not a huge fan of the series. Oh and this...

How many Zelda games actually had deep stories? I don't really count that many...

Funny stuff! Made the game sound much worse then it was though.
