Wii U is right around the corner and Wii is packing it's bags and heading off to college. Over the past soon to be 6 years, Wii has been called many things from "innovative" to "catastrophe".

The question I'd like to propose to you is this: why do you like or not like Wii? Is it the selection of games available on Wii? Could it be the way Wii has changed and/or influenced decisions made in the gaming industry? Why do you feel the way you feel about Wii?

Once you research enough, the Wii has tons of games a vast variety of people can appreciate, but I dislike people who say things like it stinks because of its "lack of shooters".

Games To Finish: Arkham City, Nintendo Land, Wario Land: Shake It!, Red Steel 2, Okami, Xenoblade Chronicles, Sticker Star, Dragon Quest IX, Okamiden, Spirit Tracks, Superstar Saga, Kid Icarus 1 & 2, Blaster Master: Enemy Below, Bionic Commando GB, Rayman GBC, Banjo Tooie, Castlevania: SotN.

Hehehe, I went to college the same year the Wii came out :)

I like the Wii because of Mario Galaxy and Skyward Sword!

Like:
-Mario's return to greatness in 2007 (SPM and SMG)
-Sonic's return to non-handheld greatness (Sonic 4 and Colors).
-Lots of Nintendo's expected awesome games.
-Motion controls as a thing that is new for major consoles. Innovation, creativity, fun! Largely didn't get old.
-Motion controls when used really well. Especially stuff like FPS's and the few Wii Motion Plus games.
-Most of the unexpected genres used for a modern day console, especially arcade rail shooters. Especially compared to the way too often samey and mediocre 360 games I got pre-Dead Space/Mirror's Edge.
-Being largely the opposite of the other console I owned. That way I get tons of variety from having two consoles.
-Having a launch that didn't completely suck. Nowadays, a console deserves kudos just for this.
-XENOBLADE
-Many awesome 3rd party niche games. Delicious and awesome.
-Helped me discover the greatness of Xseed. Xseed rules the world, buy their games!
-Games with more unique art styles.
-2D games. Yes! Fun! DKCR man! Muramasa: The Demon Blade, son!
-Virtual Console. I love you Virtual Console. I never got to play SMRPG or Ristar or Castlevania 1-3 before and I got to play some of my favorite games from when I was younger. Awesome.
-Wii Sports/Resort. The best thing to come out of intentional casual gaming.
-World of Goo. One of the best puzzle games ever made. Period. Amazing game, single handedly justified Wiiware's existance for a while.
-Cave Story. Pixel makes money.
-The fact that everyone will realized in 10 years their mistakes in not getting Little King's Story and Muramasa (and Xenoblade to a lesser extent) and everyone will beg for my forgiveness for ever doubting me. I hope...

...

I AM NOT BITTER AT ALL!

Dislikes:
-Everything sabotages great 3rd party games. No one wants to acknowledge their existance. The economy gets worse. Nintendo fails at helping 3rd parties when they needed to the most. Even when they can, 3rd parties often just don't advertise or market well. Understandable because of everything but still annoying.
-Mediocre games make money more than usual. This is just me being a semi-hipster jerk, but BOO! Buying Carnival games and not great games! Boo!
-Largely lazy NSMB sequel makes an absurd amount of money, Little King's Story sells poorly enough to cause people to lose their jobs. No, I'm not bitter, why do you ask?
-Friend Codes. ...yeah...
-Online in general. Now, I think online at least can be overrated in certain games and situations and shouldn't be the be-all end-all for everything. That being said, a ton of people disagree. A ton of people who would buy video games. Who would buy video games fairly often. Now, DS was understandable, it was released two years earlier and was a handheld. Having WiFi at all was unexpected originally, and at the time was pretty good. It didn't have to be as good as the competition but at least something close...remotely close? But this really cost Wii, and the main reason I point this out is because of...
-Brawl gets too much hype. No game should ever be hyped as much as this ever again. It is a bad idea. I am convinced of this. It is genuinely an excellent game and a great followup to Melee, but I prefer Melee's gameplay. The subtle changes weren't...that...good. And the thing that killed it was the laggy online. I am certain at this point that this is what really started getting people against Nintendo, when they screwed up the ultimate Nintendo fan's dream, online Smash Bros. The lack of games outside of Mario Kart for the next few months probably just made it that much more clear that Wii wasn't the flawless, brilliant system people expected, and I almost don't blame them.
-Samba De Amigo Wii. Broken controls on a port of, what was until Rhythm Heaven, my favorite rhythm game of all time that held a special place in my heart. Screw you Sega.
-Inconsistent releases. Seriously, they spaced these out so poorly. 2009 and 2010 were unbelievably amazing years for the console, releasing at least one really good game per month for 24 months it seems. Compare that to 2008 which was really bad, and 2011 which was the most abysmal thing ever. Like, N64 and GCN, far less popular consoles, weren't that bad the year BEFORE they were replaced.
-Ridiculously small limits for Wiiware. That was just...stupid.
-Cave Story. Nicalis makes money.

Prices could be better. Nintendo needed to have its Wiiware and Virtual console games fluctuate in prices...
Nintendo needed to release more games in 2010-2012 (since third parties were hopeless) but I guess were busy with 3DS and Wii U.

I like the wii for Zelda, its collection of 2D games and VC imports, I dislike the wii for its not updating the shopping channel with regular sales or price cuts plus after a few years the disks get really loud while loading to the point its way too noticeable.

Dislike:

  • Most of the Nintendo games on it weren't as wild and progressive as the one on the GCN
  • Most of the 3rd Party games were either bad or may as well have been on another system. There were also several that bacame overrated just because they were on the Wii
  • The motion controls were ultimately a complete failure, having added nothing positive to the vast majority of the Wii's library
  • The Wii download shop could've been way, way better

Liked:

  • It had 400 VC games
  • It had Monster Hunter on a console with online, a Great 2D Sonic game, The only progressive JRPG released on a console this gen, Tatsunoko VS Capcom, Metroid Prime 3, and the definitive version of Okami.

I wouldn't trade my Wii for brand new a PS3 and 360. The Wii has the best selection of original and unique games out there! Long live the Wii!!!

The Wii is my favourite console, so many great games for it. In terms of first party games there's Super Mario galaxy, Super Mario galaxy 2, Wario land: The shake dimension, Xenoblade chronicles, Super paper Mario, Mario kart Wii, Punch-out wii, Super smash bros. brawl etc. There are some awesome third-party games too like No more heroes, No more heroes 2: Desperate struggle, Little King's story, Zack and Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' treasure etc. Its a shame that it didn't get the appreciation it deserves as there are still many people who think its just for casual gamers.

Good:

It has some good games (especially first party).
Wii Motion Plus was amazing when it was put to good use (Skyward Sword).
The VC.

Bad:

Horrible third party support.
Most retail Wii and WiiWare games were shovelware.
The motion controls were gimmicky most of the time. Only a few games actually succeeded with motion controls and felt natural.
The horrible online setup.
Friend codes.
The disc drive. It loves to quit reading dual layer discs and sometimes single layer discs. I bought a second Wii because of that problem.
No achievements or trophies like the superior HD consoles.
The serious lack of RPGs on the system. There are a few good ones (like Xenoblade Chronicles) but the PS3, PSP, and DS have far more RPGs than the Wii does.
The serious drought of games in the console's latter years.
The Classic Controller lacks a rumble feature.
Some VC games lack certain features that the original version had (GBC transfer content and rumble).
The VC games drought and removal of some VC games.
Lack of support for playing DVDs.
No price drops or special sales on games for the Wii Shop Channel (except for a rare temporary sales drop that Sega did once or twice).
The lack of support for Discover cards on the Wii Shop Channel (and also the eShop).

I've been enjoying Wii without much of a hitch. Could be my tolerance... I do dislike how the 3rd party support is severely underwhelming for often trivial reasons and how so few developers made proper use or took advantage of what the Wii had to offer. Also, the Wii Shop Channel is slow and boring. Glad the eShop brought major improvements I believe. Online components are weak and few games don't break away from the friend code system (CoD, Monster Hunter Tri for example). Not many (J)RPGs and a majority of them are too traditional and don't break away from the norm.

Ports/multiplatform games get skinned content for often no substantial reason other than "it's not powerful enough", but c'mon, a mode and a few items are missing because of system performance? Please...

I love the first party games and the Virtual Console. Nintendo has the best classics. Twilight Princess was my favorite game of the 2000s decade for sure. Motion plus is awesome too.

I absolutely hate that it isn't HD or as powerful as PS3 or 360. Not because I'm a graphics junky, but because it left all the greater third party support to the other systems.
