I personally didn't love nor hate it; it's probably one of my least favorite Zeldas (and I have played quite a lot of Zeldas, it's my favorite franchise), but not a bad game in any way. I love the motion controls and, as briwipdx said, it's kind of disappointing how we're likely to never experience them again; I also love the art style, being so delicate and colorful (I think I'll always remember the water temple as one of my favorite dungeons ever, both for its mechanics and its style, which is truly stunning). The things I didn't like were the fact it only had three areas to explore again and again, its hand-holding gameplay (you know, I don't like to be told what to do next; Zelda games should be all about figuring out yourself how to proceed) and its bland flying hub: as Kaze_Memaryu pointed out, it's a sort of watered down WW overworld with no interesting things to do.

I couldn't have explained it better.

Fi was sooooo annoying and repeating the same areas over and over was so boring. The game's world was dull and the game's length artificial. I didn't like how the game told the story, either. What I liked were the motion controls, some dungeons and Skyloft's music. The art style was not that nice in my opinion compared to Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask or Twilight Princess, but that's just me.

I really don't like the navigation bar of Nintendo Life continuously reappearing while browsing!!

@Geoffrey I don't even like Skyward Sword, but I wouldn't put the game off as a spin-off, or ''not a core Zelda game''. Wind Waker, Majora's Mask, Skyward Sword, etc. are just as much a Zelda game as Twilight Princess is, or Ocarina of Time.

Skyward Sword even has the Silent Realms, your so-called ''transformative mechanic that allows you to approach areas from a different perspective''. Graphically speaking, Zelda II wasn't abstract either, and Majora's Mask was the same as OoT. I don't think you can argue that certain games are not ''Zelda'' enough.

Real spin-off Zelda titles are Link's Crossbow Training and Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland.
