Seeing and hearing everyone bash Nintendos head with quotes like -It´s for kids, -it´s for girls -it´s not hardcore yadi yada... How old are you guys (and gals?)

Me? Im 28-29isch and was brought up by nes.

Old Nintendofan from up north...

Stevie

Me? I'm 1-100isch

Na seriously I'm 23

(Edit) Oh and my first console was a Atari 2600 Jr, then a Amiga 600 (not strictly a console but at a young age i only ever used it for gaming), then a SNES

NES was the first console I remember playing, though it only took a few years before I crawled into a cabinet during hide-and-seek and found my dad's old Intellivision.

I like Adam's strategy of obfuscation: I excitedly unwrapped an original NES one fateful Christmas back when the Super Mario Bros. craze was underway, complete with the dual cartridge that included Duck Hunt. I soon received Zelda and the rest is history.

I suppose that dates me relatively well.

I'll be 15 on the 29th. I suppose I was brought up on the nes, cause that was my first console I ever had.

@Toddr

Wow, you just reminded me how long the shelf life of consoles used to be. You must have intersected just at the very end of the NES's life, but still, many of us who were brought up on the NES are closer to twice your age. That's impressive for one console.

Well, I think I got it during the days of the n64, but even still, most of my friends had one at that time.

Well, yeah the SNES came out in 91, but there were still new games for the NES for longer than one might expect, so it did have a very impressive shelf life.

Case in point: the NES version of the game I am named after was released when the SNES had already been out for about 3 years.

Heh, maybe the thread should be for relating our first video game experiences and letting the others guess our age, using our first games as one would the rings of a tree trunk.
Some additional information: My NES Zapper was actually gray instead of the more prolific orange.

Ha, yes I like this game.

My information is even further clouded by the fact that I can't recall exactly how old I was, although I do remember that my friends all had one for a good while before I did, although time perception in elementary school is confused at best. My parents, however, held out a while because they were very skeptical of video games and suspicious of their potential impact on a child. For years, I was limited to only 30 minutes of video games on school days and 1 hour per non-school day. That just meant that I cherished that half hour of Zelda all the more, like watching some sort of favorite TV show that came on at a specific time every day.

I'm 25 and can't stand the whole Wii is for hardcore argument. Isn't hardcore vs. casual just a generic discription of games I want to play vs. games I don't? Anyway I grew up on NES. My love for all things video games happened when I got Game Boy pocket and Link's Awakening as a gift, however.

I'm 30 and got an NES when I was 10...I've been a Nintendo fan ever since and have owned every console and almost every handheld. Prior to the NES, we had an Odessey 2, an Atari 2600, and an Intellivision.

EDIT - And BTW, I'm probably more "hardcore" than most of the people that use that word...but I have absolutely no interest in most of the games that are considered "hardcore" (in the sense that it is most often used)

I would say the same of myself, if you mean the definition of "hardcore" that is more aimed at GTA or Madworld than it is at, say, Zelda.

This topic seems pointless

Forums exist for the discussion of the pointless. I also find it quite interesting to learn how my age compares to those of other regulars around here. I'm older than more than I thought, but am nicely outpaced by enough to not feel TOO old.

That said, I'm 20, raised on NES, SNES, and original Game Boy.

I also fit into the definition of hardcore that prefers Zelda and Metroid to MadWorld and GTA. Excessive violence and profanity do NOT equal quality adult entertainment!

I'm 26. I cut my teeth on Super Breakout and Galaxian for the Atari 5200... I remember my parents got us a Nintendo for Christmas one year (it was the NES Action Set); it was either '88 or '89. Those were the days, man... coming home after school and battling my siblings for first crack at the Nintendo... good times.
