This isn't possible because some games like Mario Kart Wii have built in (I suppose) models that make Mii heads appear in certain levels (like Wario's Mine) I could be completely wrong though and it would be possible to add more customization options without any compatiblity issues

I wouldn't wish for that, Blu-ray is Sony's territory. Speaking of high-capacity discs, why do you want DVD playback? Don't you already have a DVD player?
