Animal Crossing: City Folk
I played the Wild World and a little of the GCN versions and playing this game was like doing everything I've already done in both of those game all over again. Seriously, there isn't much beyond fishing, bug catching, and fossil collecting. It was too much of the same and not enough new for me.

Glad I'm not the only one who felt that way about Okami. I didn't get too far into it, but I was at some collection quest, wandering around aimlessly for something or other, and it just wasn't particularly interesting. Twilight Princess was better, and it wasn't exactly the best game ever either (though I enjoyed it enough to finish it once).

And yes, Fire Emblem rules... except when you get over halfway through the game and suddenly you're switched back to an earlier party that has two characters left in it and you can't possibly progress.

I don't think something like that has ever happened to me in such a long game before. I need to rent it again someday.

Hmmm, well, I'm not far into Fire Emblem so I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

I though Twilight Princess was pretty decent, though I cannot see replaying it (or any other Zelda if they all have the same basic structure) -- the controls were much better than Ookami and despite having to pull out a walkthrough at a couple of points I was able to work through it pretty well. Every time it got tedious they'd have a great cutscene and draw me back in. Skipping all the sidequests made it go down easier, but the 3rd person adventure game where you wander around with a lot of platforming in an unstructured manner just doesn't work for me too well.

I picked up Rogue Trooper earlier today -- that's a 3rd person game I think I'll be able to sink my teeth into!

EDIT: This was responding to someone about that 2D Wario game released last summer.

I rented it and quit after level 3. It's too slow and there is very little action. It's mostly solving boring puzzles and shaking the remote endlessly. I was very disappointed because I too love 2D platformers and never would have expected Nintendo to release something like that, especially as a full retail game.

I'll copy my text from VC-Forums here:

SUPER SMASH BROS. BRAWL was a bit of a dissappointment.

I loved Super Smash Bros. Melee. I didn't care that much of the basic fights but everything else was great fun for me. I loved to unlock stuff and getting trophies. I loved to play that punch bag minigame. I loved to play the target smash game. I loved to play the sidescrolling adventure game. I loved to play the "beat 100 enemies" and "fight 'em for 15 minutes" challenges.

I was absolutely excited when I read news about Brawl. All the new stuff felt so great and I couldn't wait for getting to play it. Also, I never thought a game could have too much unlockables and options. Oh, how wrong I was...

First of all, I feel the controls are quite broken when compared to Melee. I played Melee with a GameCube controller so I thought to play Brawl with it too and now the adventure mode and target smashing feels very hard to play. The trophy collecting isn't that fun anymore. And, oh dear, what they did to the punching bag game! What's with the invisible glass walls? Also, the bag seems to drop out of the arena too often.

Of course, I just might not be good at playing the game but I feel the controls should be the way they were in Melee.

I played Brawl for a couple of days and had some fun with it but then I just lost interest and haven't been playing it for a month or two or so.

There's just too much everything and all the great things from Melee have been changed to be a bit worse.

Also, although I like 2D-platformers and the newest WARIO LAND was basically quite fun to play, I just didn't like the "run back to the start with a time limit" thing after every single level. Because of that I didn't like to play a new level anymore and didn't want even try to complete the challenges as some of them were possible to do only in that time-limited running part and it was just too frustrating to try them more than once.

Most definitely Zack & Wiki. Didn't like the game at all. Definitely overrated in some ways.

I thought Zak & Wiki was pretty enjoyable up until the last level with the incredibly broken sword fighting mechanic that made the game unfinishable. Really ruined it for me; I would avoid it just because of that (and the music rhythm bits also really really got frustrating due to broken motion detection). Shame on you Capcom!

Well, just never finish a chapter with only two characters left, even if you think you're about to be done with them... because you won't be done with them.

I've not been massacred that badly! Most I've lost is two characters in my party; more than that and I'd be looking to replay the battle .

As much as I love the genre, I'm pretty awful at it, so I tend to take any win I can get, haha.

Da Blob + Wario Land Shake it - Both good games that i thought i would really enjoy before buying them, but for some reason i have played both games for a few hours when buying them + never been compelled enough to play them again, not sure why

Sean_Aaron

Sounds like platformer overload to me Stevie -- you need a good 3D action game or a 2D shooter methinks...

Final Fantasy VIII. That game made me HATE Final Fantasy back when it came out. But then I played FFVII, and it's AMAZING. After that I went back and tried to play FFVIII again...still couldn't do it. It's not for me.
